Instrument of Appointment

Whereas the Secretary for Transport is empowered under section 19 (1) of the Shipping and Seamen Act 1952 to appoint examiners and whereas this power was delegated to the Director, Marine Division on the 19th day of May 1986.

Now therefore, I, Hubert David Maurice Jones, Director, Marine Division, hereby appoint Warren Brodie Faulds and Bruce Lee Mason as Examiners of Marine Engineers for the purpose of granting:

(a) Local launchmen’s licences;
(b) Certificates of competency as commercial launchmaster; and

(c) Certificates of competency as second-class diesel trawler engineer.

Traffic Regulations 1976

Approval of Flashing-Light Direction Indicators

Pursuant to regulation 88 of the Traffic Regulations 1976, the Secretary for Transport hereby approves, for the purposes of regulation 63 of the said regulations, of flashing-light direction indicators of the make and type described in the Schedule hereto:

Schedule

Flashing-light direction indicators complying with the following requirements:

(i) The indicators shall show a white or amber light to the front and simultaneously an amber or red light to the rear;

(ii) Each lens shall have a frontal area of not less than 23 square centimetres;

(iii) The power of the bulb in each lamp shall not be less than 15 watts and not more than 36 watts;

(iv) The lights shall begin to flash not later than one second after the controlling switch is operated. When in operation the lights shall flash constantly at a rate of not less than 60 or more than 120 flashes per minute;

(v) The lights to indicate a right hand turn shall be fitted near the right side of the vehicle and those to indicate a left hand turn near the left side of the vehicle;

(vi) A visible device shall be fitted so that the driver, when in the driving position is readily aware of the failure to function, of one or more of the direction indicator lamps.

Provided that the light showing to the front may be incorporated in the side-light assembly of the vehicle and the light showing to the rear may be incorporated in the tail-light assembly; subject to the power of the side light or tail light, as
