Amending Terms of Reference of Committee of Inquiry into Allegations Concerning the Treatment of Cervical Cancer at National Women’s Hospital and into Other Related Matters

To all to whom these presents shall come, and to:

SILVIA ROSE CARTWRIGHT of Auckland, a District Court Judge:

Whereas, by Warrant dated the 10th day of June 1987*, you were appointed to be a Committee of Inquiry to inquire into the matters set out in that Warrant, being matters concerning the treatment of cervical cancer at National Women’s Hospital and other related matters:

And whereas it is desirable that the terms of reference set out in the said Warrant be amended:

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 13 (3) of the Hospitals Act 1957, I, MICHAEL EDWARD RAINTON BASSETT, Minister of Health, hereby amend those terms of reference—

(a) By omitting from subclause (2) the words “natural history of cervical cancer”, and substituting the words “natural history of CIS of the genital tract”; and

(b) By inserting in subclause (2) (c), after the word “considered”, the words “and investigated”; and

(c) By omitting from subclause (7) (a), and also from subclause (7) (b), the words “cervical cancer”, and substituting in each case the words “cervical cancer and pre-cancerous conditions of the genital tract”; and

(d) By omitting from subclause (9) the words “of cervical cancer at the National Women’s Hospital”, and substituting the words “at the National Women’s Hospital of cervical cancer and pre-cancerous conditions of the genital tract or to the foregoing terms of reference or to both”:

And I hereby confirm the said Warrant dated the 10th day of June 1987, save as amended by this Warrant.
