(ix) The Mangatutu Stream and its tributaries from its source to the Lethbridge Road Bridge:

(x) The Puniu River and its tributaries from its source to the Bayly Road Bridge:

(xi) The Kaniwhaniwha Stream and its tributaries from its source on Pirongia Mountain to its confluence with the Waipa River:

(xii) The Ngakoaohia Stream from its source on Pirongia Mountain to the bridge on State Highway 31:

(xiii) The Awakino River and its tributaries from its source to the Mahoenui Bridge:

(xiv) The Little Waipa River from its source to its point of entry into Lake Karapiro:

(l) Any multiple hook in the Wanganui River;

(m) Any unsportsmanlike device or method.

  1. Prohibition on unauthorised fishing tackle, etc.—No licence holder shall, when fishing for acclimatised fish, use or have in his possession or under his control or convey or cause to be conveyed to the vicinity of any place where he is fishing or proposes to fish, any paravane, any stroke-hauling or foulhooking gear, or any spear.

  2. Use of nets—Subject to clause 6 (1) of this notice, no licence holder shall use or cause to be used for taking any acclimatised fish, a net of any description:

Provided that it shall be a defence for any person charged with a breach of this clause if he proves that he was netting for indigenous fish in accordance with the provisions of any regulations or notices in force in that behalf.

  1. Prohibition on possession or control of spear gun—(1) No licence holder shall, when taking any acclimatised fish or when in possession of any acclimatised fish, use or have in his possession or under his control any spear gun or any pointed missile (other than a bullet) which is propelled by means of any mechanical or explosive device.

(2) Where any person is charged with an offence under sub-clause (1) of this clause, it shall be a defence to the charge if the defendant proves that the spear gun or pointed missile in his possession or under his control was not used in taking the acclimatised fish.

(3) In this clause the term “explosive” has the same meaning as in the Explosives Act 1957.

  1. Authorised lures and baits—No licence holder shall fish for acclimatised fish with any bait or lure other than artificial or natural fly, insect, worm, crustacea, minnow, fish (excluding fish ova or any portion of a fish or any shellfish (mollusca)), except in the following waters:

(i) Lake Kuwakatai:

(ii) Lake Kereta:

(iii) Lake Okaihau:

(iv) Lake Pupuke:

(v) Smales Quarry Lake:

(vi) Lake Puketi:

(vii) The Mangatawhiri River from the bridge on State Highway 2 to its confluence with the Waikato River:

(viii) The Whangamarino River:

(ix) Quarry Road Dam Ardmore:

(x) Papakura City Water Supply Dam:

(xi) Any other pond or lake contained within any freehold land title:

where any bait (excluding fish ova or any portion of a fish or any shellfish (mollusca)) may be used.

  1. Daily limit bag—(1) No licence holder shall on any one day take or have in his possession more than 8 trout or salmon.

(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause no licence holder shall on any one day take or have in his possession more than a total of 5 trout or salmon from one or more of the following waters—

(i) Lake Pupuke:

(ii) Lake Moanai:

(iii) Lake Tomarata:

(iv) Lake Ototoa:

(v) Lake Whatihua (Thomsons Lake):

(vi) Lake Otamatearoa (Muirs Lake):

(vii) The Hikutaia Cut:

(viii) Smales Quarry Lake.

(3) No person shall continue to use a rod and running line to take trout or salmon on any day on which he has already taken 8 trout or salmon.

(4) It shall be permissible to make up the difference between a lesser limit bag prescribed in one place and a higher limit bag prescribed in another place.

  1. Minimum size to be taken—(1) Subject to subclause (2) of this clause no licence holder shall take or have in his possession, any trout or salmon which does not exceed 30 cm in length.

(2) No licence holder shall take or have in his possession any trout or salmon which does not exceed 22 cm in length taken from—

(a) These waters specified in clause 11 (2); or

(b) The Waihou River and its tributary the Waimakariri Stream.

(3) Every licence holder taking a trout or salmon which does not exceed the specified length shall immediately return it, whether it is alive or dead, with as little injury as possible, into the water from which it was taken.

  1. Revocation—The notice published in the supplement to Gazette, No. 139 of Thursday, 4 September 1986, on pages 3771–3773 titled District Anglers (Auckland Acclimatisation District) Notice 1986, is hereby revoked.

District Anglers (Hawera, Stratford and Taranaki Acclimatisation Districts) Notice 1987

Pursuant to section 71 of the Fisheries Act 1983, the Hawera, Stratford and Taranaki Acclimatisation Societies hereby give the following District Anglers Notice.

NOTICE

  1. Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Hawera, Stratford and Taranaki Acclimatisation Districts) Notice 1987, and shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1987.

  2. Interpretation—Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Fisheries Act 1983 or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983 have the meanings so defined.

  3. Open season—Fishing for acclimatised fish by licence holders shall be permitted during the period from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive), provided that:

(a) There shall be an open season from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of September in the same year (both days inclusive) in Lake Mangamahoe:

(b) There shall be an open season from the 1st day of June to the 30th day of September in the same year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:

(i) For perch, in all lakes, except Lake Rotorangi, and dams (not rivers), in the Hawera Acclimatisation District:

(ii) For trout, in Lake Opunake, and Lake Rotomanu:

(c) There shall be an open season from the 10th day of June to the 30th day of September in the same year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:

(i) For acclimatised fish, in Lake Ratapiko, except in the race entering the lake upstream from the bridge near the outlet of the race into the lake, as is indicated by notice boards erected on the banks of the race by the bridge:

(ii) For trout, in the Hangatahua (or Stony) River downstream from Highway 45, the Mangahume River downstream from Main Road at Opunake, the Waiwakaiho River downstream from Main Road Bridge at Fitzroy, the Kau-pokonui and Waingongoro Rivers downstream from South Road, the Waitara River downstream from its junction with the Manganui, the Huiotoki Stream downstream from the Huiotoki Road bridge.

(d) No person shall fish for acclimatised fish in the Hawera Acclimatisation District from the 21st day of April to the 30th day of April in the same year (both days inclusive).

  1. Authorised tackle—(1) Every person shall fish for, take or kill acclimatised fish using only a rod and running line provided that for:

(a) Playing an acclimatised fish, a landing net or gaff may be used to secure or land any such fish;

(b) Taking small indigenous fish for bait in angling, a bait net not over 1.8 metres in length may be used;

(c) Keeping alive acclimatised fish lawfully taken with rod and line in the same water, a keep net not over 1.8 metres in length may be used.
