Tariff and Industry Assistance Notices

4310 NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE No. 157

Gazette Notice

With the advent of the HCDCS Tariff in January 1988 it will be necessary to update (reclassify) tariff concessions which will be current past 31 December 1987.

Many of the new Tariff’s items can be transferred on a one-for-one basis with existing tariff items and a list of these is published in the September issue of the Customs Department’s ‘Contraband’ magazine. Holders or users of concessions classified in such items need not apply for reclassification of the concessions – these will be done by the department.

While the department will attempt to update as many of the remainder as possible, the descriptions of many, either by trade names or technical specifications, will result in a considerable number being left to holders or users to re-apply for continuation under the new classifications. Details of the tariff items involved in this part of the exercise will be published in the Gazette progressively over the next two months.

Collectors of Customs can advise further on this exercise and can supply details of the tariff items which cover concessions that will be reclassified automatically by the department.
