AUSTRALIAN STANDARD

AS 3100: 1985
Approval and Test Specification—
Definitions and general requirements for electrical materials and equipment. Declared suitable subject to the following conditions.

  1. Wherever AS 3000 is stated this shall read “the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976.”

  2. Clause 2.3.4—“hot wire ... AS 3121” is deleted and replaced with “glow wire test requirements detailed in AS 2420 for a tip temperature of 550 degrees celsius.

  3. Clause 3.3—the last paragraph is not applicable to New Zealand.

  4. Clause 3.8.3—this clause is not applicable to New Zealand.

  5. Clause 3.8.4—an additional requirement for New Zealand is that “if a category two single pole switch is required this switch shall operate in the active conductor only.”

  6. Clause 4.4.1—the use of light duty sheathed flexible cord is subject to the requirement specified in regulation 83 (d) of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976.

  7. Clause 5.1—use of Edison screw lampholders is also subject to the requirements of regulation 97 (2) of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976.

  8. Clause 5.7—the second sentence is not applicable to New Zealand.

—Table 5.7 is deleted and replaced with Table 2 of New Zealand NZS 6300.

  1. Clause 6.1.1.2—Subclauses (a) and (b) (i) are amended as follows:

    a. With a test duration of 30s, 850 degrees celsius for generally unattended apparatus on insulating material that retains in position connections carrying current greater than 0.5A and which may create a fire hazard in the event of a failure.

    b. With a test duration of 30s, 750 degrees celsius for generally attended apparatus on insulating material retaining live parts in position other than those tested in “a” above;

     —subclause (d) is added as follows:
    
     d. 650 degrees celsius for 30s on insulating material for accessories.
  2. Clause 6.2—This clause is not applicable (see table 2 to New Zealand NZS 6300).

Australian Standard AS3100-1985 will be used as the preferred alternative to New Zealand Standard 1300-1965 and will remain in force until the revised New Zealand Standard NZS 1300 or its replacement has been published.

Compliance with a declared standard shall not preclude the need to comply with the requirements of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976.

Amendments to the Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand

Pursuant to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1965, the Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand, at the annual general meeting held on the 13th day of May 1987, passed resolutions amending the rules of the society published in the New Zealand Gazette on 22 December 1965, the effect of such resolutions being:

Section J—The Encouragement of Research

JIII. Hamilton Memorial Fund
Rule JIII6 was amended to read:

  1. This prize shall be awarded for scientific research carried out in New Zealand or in the islands of the South Pacific Ocean. The applicant or nominator shall submit one or more papers published within 7 years preceding the last day of January prior to the council meeting at which the award is made. The papers shall include the first substantive paper published by the candidate. The applicant or nominator shall attest that this is included. The applicant or nominator shall identify one paper that is considered to be the principal one on which the award is to be judged. In the circumstances that this paper has more than one author, the applicant or nominator shall supply a statement of what part or aspect of the work is primarily the work of the candidate. A notice or advertisement of the award shall be distributed to Fellows and Member Bodies and other appropriate organisations in October each year.

Section L—Fellows

Rules L4 and L8 were amended to read:

  1. Normally seven Fellows shall be elected in any one year. The Fellows in annual meeting shall determine the number of Fellows to be recommended by the selection committee in the following year up to a maximum of 7, but the Fellows shall not be compelled to elect that number.

L8. The panel reports shall be referred to a Fellowship selection committee which shall comprise the President, the Home Secretary and those officers and council members who are Fellows and who are not for the time being conveners or members of selection panels. The selection committee is to assemble at the meeting of council immediately preceding the annual meeting of Fellows. The President shall have the power to co-opt additional Fellows to the selection committee. The conveners of each panel shall report to the selection committee, and shall present a statement in support of the two candidates considered by each panel to be the most worthy of election to the Fellowship. The conveners shall then withdraw and the committee shall prepare a list of the proposed Fellows.
