Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL

WHEREAS, on the 9th day of April 1987, His Excellency the Governor-General, pursuant to section 19 (1) of the Electoral Act 1956, proclaimed in the Gazette, as the names and boundaries of the electoral districts fixed by the Representation Commission, the names and boundaries reported to him by the Representation Commission as the names and boundaries so fixed: And whereas the Representation Commission has advised the Minister of Justice that certain descriptions contained in the Schedules to the Proclamation of the 9th day of April 1987 (being descriptions of the boundaries of electoral districts) are erroneous in that they do not accord with the determinations of the Representation Commission: And whereas the Representation Commission has requested the Minister of Justice that it be authorised to advise His Excellency the Governor-General of the errors contained in the report from which those descriptions were taken and of the amendments that need to be made to the Proclamation of the 9th day of April 1987 for the purpose of making it accord with the determinations of the Representation Commission: And whereas sufficient provision is not made in the Electoral Act 1956 for the correction of errors in descriptions of the boundaries of electoral districts: And whereas it is desirable that the errors be corrected:

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 187 of the Electoral Act 1956, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. Title—This order may be cited as the Representation Commission (Correction of Errors) Order 1987.

  2. Correction of errors—(1) The Representation Commission is hereby authorised to present to the Governor-General a memorandum (hereinafter referred to as “the supplementary report”) specifying the amendments that need to be made to descriptions set out in the Schedules to the Proclamation published in the Gazette of the 9th day of April 1987 at pages 1552 to 1616 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Proclamation”) for the purpose of making those descriptions accord with the determinations of the Representation Commission.

(2) The Governor-General shall, upon receipt of the supplementary report, publish in the Gazette a proclamation making to the principal Proclamation the amendments specified in the supplementary report.
