Tripartite Wage Conference

PURSUANT to section 16E of the Industrial Relations Act 1973 (as inserted by section 3 of the Industrial Relations Amendment Act 1984), I, Stanley Joseph Rodger, Minister of Labour, hereby give notice that the 1985 Tripartite Wage Conference, to be held in accordance with section 16A of the Industrial Relations Act 1973, will commence at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the 30th day of April 1986 at Parliament Buildings.

As required by section 16GH of the Industrial Relations Act 1973, the Conference is to be a forum for consultations about the economic environment in which wages and other remuneration and conditions of employment will be settled after the Conference, and the Government's economic policies in relation to that environment. The consultations are to relate to past trends and likely developments in inflation, the distribution of incomes from all sources, the competitiveness of New Zealand industry, the implications of the Government's fiscal and monetary policies, the employment situation and such other matters as the Conference may determine.

Section 16H of the Industrial Relations Act 1973, provides that the Conference is also to be a forum for consultations about the interests of the low-paid and methods by which their interests may be protected. In this respect the consultations will relate to wages and other remuneration and conditions of employment, the rates of social security benefits, rates of taxation, and the appropriate mix of Government spending, taxation and wage policies required to protect the interests of the low-paid (including the effectiveness of the mechanism by which the minimum wage is fixed and the level of the minimum wage and other minimum standard governing the employment of workers and State employees).

Any person may make written submissions in relation to the subject matter of the Conference. Submissions should be addressed to the Minister of Labour, Parliament Buildings, Wellington. All submissions received will be made available to those participating in the consultations at the Conference.

Attendance and participation at the Conference is restricted to persons representing: the Government, workers (nominated by the New Zealand Federation of Labour), State employees (nominated by the Combined State Unions), employers (nominated by the New Zealand Employers Federation (Inc.)) and State employers (nominated by the State Services Co-ordinating Committee), and to deputies and advisers to those persons.

Dated at Wellington this 8th day of April 1986.

STAN RODGER, Minister of Labour.
