The eastern boundary from Whakahoro generally extends to Mount Dawson, to the Mangapurua Trig, down the ridgeline east of the Mangapurua Valley to the Wanganui River. The eastern boundary then generally follows the Wanganui River to Pipiriki.
In addition to the main area of the park, there are two outliers to the north and south. The northern area extends from Te Maire in the north to Whakahoro in the south while the southern area extends from the village of Ranana in the north to Atene in the south.
