THE PUBLIC WORKS ACT 1981
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO TAKE LAND
Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 23 (1) (h) of the Public Works Act 1981 that the Franklin County Council proposes to take under the Public Works Act the land described in the Schedule to this notice.
The land is to be taken for sewerage works and the new Drury Sewerage Treatment Plant will be constructed thereon.
The reasons why the taking of the land is considered essential are:
(a) The existing temporary sewerage treatment plant at Drury has reached the end of its economic life.
(b) Oxidation ponds are the most energy efficient and suitable type of sewerage system for permanent sewerage treatment for a township of the type and size of Drury.
(c) Health Department and Ministry of Works criteria for oxidation ponds require such a sewerage system to be isolated from dwellings, exposed to prevailing winds and near a sizable volume of receiving water. All those requirements for the new sewerage system can be met on the land proposed to be taken.
Any persons wishing to object to the proposed taking are called upon to lodge their objection and the reasons therefor in writing to the Registrar, Planning Tribunal, Tribunals Division, Justice Department, Private Bag, Postal Centre, Wellington on or before the 20th day of January 1986.
