Exemption from Permit Requirement Under the Animals Act 1967, (Notice No. 3240; Ag. 6/5/1/1)
PURSUANT to section 13 (4b) Animals Act 1967 as inserted by section 3 (2) Animals Amendment Act 1982, I hereby give notice exempting all persons from the necessity of obtaining a permit under section 13 (1) (a) in respect of the importation into New Zealand from Australia of dogs and cats subject to the conditions listed in the Schedule to this notice.
SCHEDULE OF CONDITIONS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS INTO NEW ZEALAND FROM AUSTRALIA
- Dogs or cats being imported must be accompanied by the following documents:
(a) A declaration signed by the owner or shipper which:
- Identifies the animal;
- States the address at which the animal has been domiciled for the previous 3 months;
- States that the animal has not been in direct or indirect contact with any animal suffering from infectious or contagious disease.
(b) A certificate from a registered veterinary surgeon stating:
*In the case of a cat*, that it was treated with 0.5 percent maldison (Malathion) dressing on 2 occasions at an interval of 4 to 6 days, the last treatment being within 48 hours of the scheduled date of exportation from Australia, and is free of ectoparasites.
*In the case of a dog*, that it was treated:
- With praziquantel (Droncit) on the date shown at a dose rate of 5 mg per kg within 7 days before the scheduled date of exportation from Australia;
- With pyrantel pamoate and oxantel pamoate (Canex Plus) on the date shown at a dose rate of 1 tablet (containing 100.90 mg pyrantel pamoate and 391.90 mg oxantel pamoate) per 7 kg body weight not more than 48 hours before the scheduled date of exportation from Australia;
- With Asuntol, at a concentration of 250 ppm of active ingredient coumaphos dressing on 2 occasions at an interval of 4 to 6 days, the last treatment being within 48 hours of the scheduled date of exportation from Australia, and is free of ectoparasites, provided that in States other than Northern Territory or Queensland 0.5 percent maldison (Malathion) dressing may replace Asuntol.
(c) A certificate by a government or an approved veterinary officer stating that he has examined the animal within 48 hours of the scheduled date of the exportation from Australia and found it to be free from clinical signs of infectious and contagious disease and that he has no reason to doubt the owner’s or shipper’s declaration.

Dogs which have been exported to Australia and are returning to New Zealand within 28 days of the date of the last treatment for Taenia multiceps in New Zealand, will not need to be dosed with Canex Plus or Droncit in Australia before reimportation provided that satisfactory evidence of the date of export to Australia is provided on re-entry into New Zealand (i.e., endorsed New Zealand Health Certificate).

Dogs and cats being imported from Australia must be conveyed on a vessel or aircraft travelling directly to New Zealand.

Dogs and cats shall not be imported on any vessel or aircraft carrying animals which are ineligible for importation into New Zealand.

Dogs and cats from Australia shall not be landed in New Zealand until an Inspector has issued a permit to land on being satisfied after inspecting the animal/s and accompanying documents that the conditions of importation have been complied with and the prescribed inspection fee paid.

Australia–New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement—Application for the Approval of Goods as Determined Imported Materials—Notice 1984/5
NOTICE is hereby given that application has been made to Australia for the approval of the goods, described in the Schedule hereto, as determined imported materials in accordance with Australian legislation relating to the rules governing the origin of goods “wholly manufactured”.
Any person wishing to lodge an objection to New Zealand supporting these applications, should do so in writing on or before 7 June 1984. Submissions should include a reference to the application number, tariff item, and description of the goods concerned, be addressed to the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, for the attention of the Director, Trade Division, and be supported by information as to the quality, range, supply, etc., of the goods or suitable alternative goods produced in New Zealand.
