Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations,
and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy

PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency
the Governor-General has approved the following appointments,
promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements
of officers of the New Zealand Naval Forces.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) George Ethelbert
Cole is placed on the Retired List in the rank of Commander, with
effect from 15 February 1984.

The appointment of Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander)
B. Craig is extended to 19 July 1986.

The appointment of Lieutenant Commander N. L. Pickett is
extended to 28 September 1984.

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) C. L. Stewart, with
reference to the notice published in the Gazette, 2 February 1984,
No. 10, page 265, for “16 January 1984” substitute “23 January
1984”.

The appointment of Lieutenant (on prob.) V. J. Dare, B.SC., is
confirmed.

Lieutenant Peter Patrick Martin Sutherland, B.A. (HONS), is placed
on the Emergency List of the RNZN until 31 January 1986, with
effect from 1 February 1984.

The appointments of the following Lieutenants (on prob.) are
confirmed:
J. P. Maxwell
L. J. Seerup, N.Z.C.E.

Lieutenant Dennis Alexander Knox, RNZNVR, is appointed to the
RNZN in the rank of Lieutenant (on prob.), with seniority from
1 January 1984 and effect from 3 February 1984; terminating on 9
August 1997.

Sub Lieutenant J. Herring, B.E. (MECH.): the notice published in
the Gazette, 18 August 1983, No. 128, page 2654, is cancelled and
the following substituted: the appointment of Sub Lieutenant John
Herring, B.E. (MECH.), is terminated with effect from 27 July 1983.

Sub Lieutenant G. I. Lowe, N.Z.C.E. (MECH.), to be temp. Lieutenant
with effect from 1 January 1984.

The appointments of the following Sub Lieutenants (on prob.) are
confirmed:

Christopher Noel Strack, M.B. CH.B., is appointed to the RNZN

17 July 1988.

The following are appointed to the RNZN in the rank of Sub
Lieutenant (on prob.), with seniority from 1 January 1984 and effect
from 18 January 1984; terminating on 17 January 2004:

Gordon Murry Sutherland, B.E. (MECH.)

The following are appointed to the RNZN in the rank of Sub

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE

The appointment of Lieutenant Peter Desmond Swain, LL.B., is
terminated with effect from 23 January 1984.

John Norman Nacey, M.B., CH.B., is appointed to the RNZNVR
in the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant (on prob.), with seniority from
30 November 1977 and effect from 1 January 1984; terminating on
1 January 2004.

and effect from 27 June 1983.

Captain D. J. Begley, B.A. (MIL.), is re-engaged until 3 January

the Retired List with effect from 14 February 1984.

Lieutenant Colonel A. L. Birks, M.B.E., to be Colonel and is
transferred to the Colonels’ List, with seniority and effect from 24
January 1984.

Major E. G. Steel, M.B.E., D.F.C., to be Lieutenant Colonel with
seniority from 2 August 1983 and effect from 3 January 1984.
