EXPLANATORY NOTE: This exemption notice provides for:
(a) exemption of—
(i) tea, unground spices, and other goods in retail packs under the Packing Industry Development Plan;
(ii) rum, brandy or whisky;
(iii) calcined flint clay and billiard cues;
(iv) specified goods for religious purposes;
(v) mulching shredding machines and certain fan blades imported from Australia to meet our obligations under ANZCERT; and
(b) amendments to existing exemptions to correct minor errors and maintain alignment with the Customs Tariff.

THE New Zealand Gazette of 7 September 1984, No. 158, pages 3653–3662, detailed the unused 1983–84 MEALs made available as TEALs and/or REALs in 1984–85.
Manufacturers who did not use 75 percent of their 1983–84 MEALs are not permitted to apply for the unused MEALs.
The New Zealand Gazette of 7 September 1984, No. 158, on page 3656, did not make available the unused 1983–84 MEALs in Item Code 74.005. We are now in a position to make available the unused 1983–84 MEALs in Item Code 74.005 as REALs as follows:

This licence is available on request by letter to May Bugg, General Industries (2), Department of Trade and Industry, Private Bag, Wellington.
Where valid applications received by 1 November 1984 exceed the $298,000 available, a ballot system will be used to allocate licences. Where valid applications are less than the $298,000 available each applicant will receive the amount applied for. The balance will be available on request during the currency of the licensing period, i.e., until 30 June 1985.
