(g) Any wire or gimp trace or cast of a greater length than 1.8 metres;

(h) On or in conjunction with any spoonbait, minnow, or other lure any double or treble hook or other fixed multiple assembly of hooks any one hook of which has a greater distance than 13 mm between the point and the nearest part of the shank of the hook; or

(i) In conjunction with any spoonbait or artificial minnow, any lead or weight affixed to the trace or line at a distance of less than 38 cm above the lure.

(2) No person in fishing for acclimatised fish shall—

(a) Fish from any boat other than a row boat in Lake Thomas:

(b) Fish from any boat or launch in that part of Lake Waituna which lies on the seaward side of a line between 2 white signposts indicating the restriction sited on directly opposite shores near what is the outlet channel when the channel is open to the sea:

(c) Use any lure or bait other than artificial bait in the following waters, including the tributaries of those waters:

The Aparima River upstream from the Otatau-Mossburn Highway:

The Hamiltonburn River upstream from the Otatau-Mossburn Highway:

The Oreti River upstream from Rocky Point:

The Whitestone River:

Lake Echo:

The Mararoa River upstream from the Mossburn-Te Anau Highway Bridge at the Key:

The Mavora Lakes:

The Borland Burn:

The Wairaki River upstream from the transmission line:

Flaxy Creek:

(d) Fish from any boat, canoe, pontoon, or any form of floatation device in the Matura River upstream from the Matura Island bridge.

  1. Daily limit bag—(1) No person shall on any one day take, kill, or have in possession more than 10 trout or salmon, of which not more than 4 may be taken from one or more of the following waters, including any tributaries of those waters:

The Aparima River upstream from the Otatau-Mossburn Highway:

The Hamiltonburn River upstream from the Otatau-Mossburn Highway:

The Oreti River upstream from Rocky Point:

The Mararoa River upstream from its junction with the Waiau river, including the Whitestone, Flaxy Creek and Windon Burn tributaries, the Mavora Lakes and Lake Echo:

The Borland Burn:

The Wairaki River:

Lake Thomas:

Lake Waituna:

The Actor-Stream:

The Cromel River:

The Matura River upstream from the Black Bridge just north of Athol:

The Monowai River.

(2) No person shall continue to fish for trout or salmon on any day on which he has already taken or killed 10 trout or salmon.

(3) It shall be permissible to make up the difference between a lesser limit bag prescribed in one place and a higher limit bag prescribed in another place.

  1. Minimum size to be taken—(1) No person shall fish for, take, or kill in any manner whatever, or intentionally have in his possession, any trout or salmon which does not exceed in length:

(i) In the case of Atlantic salmon, 38 cm;

(ii) In the case of trout, 25 cm.

(2) Every person taking a trout or salmon which does not exceed the specified length shall immediately return it with as little injury as possible into the water from which it was taken.

  1. Revocation—The notice published in the supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, No. 222 of Thursday, 15 December 1983, on pages 4603–4604, titled District Anglers (Southland Acclimatisation District) Notice 1983, is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This note is not part of the notice but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice continues the conditions under which a current licence holder may fish for acclimatised fish in the Southland Acclimatisation District set out in the 1983 notice, but—

(1) Removes the prohibition on disturbance of spawnings redds or possession of eggs of acclimatised fish;

(2) Changes the limit bag in some waters.

District Anglers (South Canterbury and Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation Districts) Notice 1984

PURSUANT to section 71 of the Fisheries Act 1983, the South Canterbury and Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation Societies hereby give the following District Anglers Notice.

NOTICE

  1. Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the District Anglers (South Canterbury and Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation Districts) Notice 1984, and shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. Interpretation—In this notice—

“Total weight” in relation to any rod fishing shall include the weight of anything attached to the line.

(2) Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Fisheries Act 1983 or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983 shall have the meanings so defined.

  1. Open season—Fishing for acclimatised fish by licence holders shall be permitted during the period from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive), provided that:

(a) There shall be an open season in the Rangitata River downstream from the bridge on the Main North Road from the first Saturday after Queen’s Birthday weekend to the 31st day of August in the same year (both days inclusive);

(b) There shall be an open season in Lakes Tekapo, Aviemore, Benmore and in the Tekapo-Pukaki canal from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of August in the same year (both days inclusive);

(c) There shall be no close season in the Pukaki-Ohau hydro canal;

(d) No person shall fish—

(i) During the period commencing on the 1st day of October and ending with the Friday preceding the first Saturday in November, for acclimatised fish in Lake Alexandrina, Lake McGregor, Lake Murray, Lake Ohau, or Lake Middleton, or in any small high-country tarn, or in the tributaries of the said lakes and tarns, or in Deep Stream (a tributary of the Waitaki River) east of the bridge where it enters Lake Aviemore, or in the Ahuriri River or its tributaries, or in the Otematata River or its tributaries, or in the Ohau River or its tributaries;

(ii) During the months of March and April, for acclimatised fish in Lynn Creek or its tributaries or in the Rangitata River or its tributaries above the point approximately 1.6 km downstream from Forest Creek, that point being more particularly shown by white posts on the river banks;

(iii) During the months of March and April, for acclimatised fish in the Rangitata River from the west end of the Rangitata Gorge downstream to its confluence with Boundary Creek, both points being more particularly shown by white posts on the river banks;

(iv) During the month of April for salmon in the Waitaki River between the Waitaki Hydro Dam and a line running beneath and parallel to the power lines across the river south-west of Bortons, or in any tributary of that part of the Waitaki River;

(v) During the months of February, March, and April, for acclimatised fish in Larch Stream;

(vi) During the period commencing on the 1st day of October and ending with the Friday preceding the first Saturday in November, for acclimatised fish in the Ahuriri River upstream from its confluence with Longslip Creek, or in any of its tributaries, or tarns or lagoons in the Ahuriri Valley upstream from this confluence;

(vii) At any time for acclimatised fish in the outlet creek between Lake Alexandrina and Lake McGregor;
