52. FOOD PRODUCTS AND CLOTHING FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES

52.1 Charitable institutions
Food products, coal, firewood, citrus fruit and clothing donated to charitable institutions (other than orphanages and Maori mission fields) for use within New Zealand and not for sale, shall be carried as parcels or goods traffic at “owner’s risk”, at half the appropriate rates, on the authority of the General Manager of the Corporation and subject to compliance with the provisions of the Carriage of Goods Act 1979. Written application for the concession must be made to the General Manager of the Corporation at least 14 days before the goods are presented for carriage.

52.2 Orphanages and Maori mission fields
In the case of food and clothing donated to New Zealand orphanages and Maori mission fields, the concession of half rates shall be granted subject to a certificate in the following form being endorsed on the consignment note:

I hereby certify that the goods entered hereon are a free donation to the ……………, to which they are consigned, and I request that these goods be consigned at “owner’s risk”.*

This means that the carrier will pay no compensation if the goods are lost or damaged unless he intentionally loses or damages them.

53. MEAT CHILLED OR FROZEN

53.1 Export Meat
Fresh, frozen, or chilled meat consigned in insulated wagons, or insulated or refrigerated containers to a port, wharf, or container terminal shall be charged as follows:

53.1.1 Under 62 km: For distances not exceeding 62 kilometres the following wagon and container rates shall be charged provided that where one container is loaded on a Uk or Ukb wagon the minimum charge shall be as for the container rate for carcass meat increased by 50 percent.
