  1. HOMING PIGEONS
    28.1 Homing pigeons to be liberated
    Homing pigeons sent to a station to be liberated for a race or for training shall, on production of the prescribed certificate, be charged as follows:
    28.1.1 Sent by ordinary goods trains: Class C goods rates and conditions (refer to clause 73).
    28.1.2 Sent by express goods or passenger trains: Ordinary parcels rates, computed on the separate weight of each container. (The weight in excess of 25 kilograms per container shall be charged separately at ordinary parcels rates).

28.2 Certificate
The required certificate shall take the following form and be signed by the secretary of the club to which the owners belong.
I hereby certify that the pigeons to the number of …………………… consigned from …………………… to …………………… on …………………… are the property of members of …………………… Club, and are being forwarded to …………………… for the purpose of competing in a race (or training).

28.3 Empty boxes, etc.
The empty hampers and boxes after pigeons are liberated shall be returned free to the sending station except that for inter-island consignments the rail air or rail ferry charges for empty returns conveyed inter-island are to be added to the charges for the outward journey.

28.4 Pigeons not to be liberated
Pigeons not forwarded for liberation shall be charged on weight or measurement at parcels rates plus 50 percent.

28.5 Terminal charge
The terminal charge as provided in clause 24.5 shall not be enforced for homing pigeons and such consignments shall not be delivered by the Corporation.

29 DOGS
29.1 Charges
29.1.1 Parcels rates: The charges for the carriage of dogs at parcels rates shall be:
Dogs, tethered (each) At the parcels rate for 20 kilograms
Dogs, in hampers, crates or boxes At parcels rate plus 50 percent on actual weight, with weight in excess of 25 kilograms to be treated as a separate consignment.

29.1.2 Inter-island consignments of dogs: Dogs not accompanying passengers must be consigned as parcels and shall not be accepted or delivered at wharf terminals. Dogs accompanying passengers on the rail ferries shall be charged as provided in clause 12.7.2.

29.2 Terminal charge
In the case of dogs unaccompanied by a passenger the terminal charge at the stations specified in clause 24.5 shall be made in addition to the charges prescribed in clause 29.1.

29.3 Delivery
Passengers or consignees must take delivery of dogs immediately on arrival of the service at the destination point, failing which the dogs shall be held by the Corporation at the sole risk and responsibility of the owner. A charge of $2.60 per day or portion of a day shall be made for each animal which is not taken delivery of immediately on arrival at the destination point. In addition to this charge owners shall be required to pay any charge that may have been incurred for food, veterinary charges, and the like.

29.4 Addressing and advance presentation
Dogs must bear a label showing distinctly the name and full address of the consignee and the destination point and, except when accompanying passengers, must be delivered to the Corporation and consigned not less than 30 minutes before the due time of departure of the service by which they are to be forwarded.

29.5 Confining of dog
The Corporation reserves the right to require that any dog presented for carriage shall be efficiently muzzled or confined in a cage, box or other suitable receptacle so as to prevent such dog from biting any person. The Corporation shall not be liable for the loss of any dog if such loss arises directly or indirectly from any tendency on the part of such dog to bite any person.

29.6 Tethering
Dogs not secured in hampers, crates, or boxes must be provided with efficient chains and collars, or other suitable means of tether. Dogs in hampers, crates, or boxes must be properly secured so as to prevent damage to other goods.
