26.2 Definition of grouped weight
When more packages than one consisting of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms, and nuts are consigned from one consignor to one consignee at the destination station, such packages shall be charged on the total weight of each consignment.

26.3 Charges
Fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms and nuts grown and packed in New Zealand (including Cook Islands or Niue), for the domestic use of the consignee, whether conveyed as excess baggage or consigned, shall be charged at half parcels rates on grouped weight except that:

26.3.1 Suitcases: Fresh fruit, vegetables, mushrooms or nuts in suitcases or similar containers are not considered “packed” in accordance with trade usage and shall be charged on grouped weight at parcels rates.

26.3.2 Adequacy of packaging: Fresh fruit, tomatoes and mushrooms packed in used cardboard boxes or in paper or plastic parcels shall be charged on grouped weight at parcels rates.

26.3.3 Terminal charge: The terminal charge specified in clause 24.5 shall apply in addition to the rates in clause 26.3 for each 25 kg or part thereof.

26.4 Domestic use of consignee
The clause 26.3 charges shall be applicable only to fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms, and nuts forwarded for the domestic use of the consignee, and shall not apply to fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms, and nuts forwarded for sale or to be used or dealt with by the consignee for any purpose other than that mentioned. In every case the consignor shall endorse the following on the face of the consignment note: “certified for domestic use of consignee only”.

26.5 Carriage on passenger service
The Corporation reserves the right to decline to carry fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh mushrooms, and nuts at clause 26.3 rates on any passenger service.

27 LIBRARY BOOKS
27.1 Charges
Books for exchange forwarded between subscribers and recognised circulating libraries shall be carried at half parcels rates, with a minimum charge of 80 cents per package, subject to the following conditions:

27.1.1 Identification of sender: The sender’s name must be shown on each parcel.

27.1.2 Declaration: A declaration must be given on the consignment note that the package contains books or other articles specially authorised by the General Manager of the Corporation.

27.1.3 Contents to be shown: A clear indication of the contents must be given on each package.

27.2 Other cases
The provisions for library books shall be applicable in other cases where authorised by the General Manager of the Corporation.

27.3 Terminal charge
The terminal charge specified in clause 24.5 shall not apply to parcels of library books. Consignees must take delivery at destination stations.

28 HOMING PIGEONS
28.1 Homing pigeons to be liberated
Homing pigeons sent to a station to be liberated for a race or for training shall, on production of the prescribed certificate, be charged as follows:

28.1.1 Sent by ordinary goods trains: Class C goods rates and conditions (refer to clause 35.4).

28.1.2 Sent by express goods or passenger trains: Ordinary parcels rates, computed on the separate weight of each container. (The weight in excess of 25 kilograms per container shall be charged separately at ordinary parcels rates).

28.2 Certificate
The required certificate shall take the following form and be signed by the secretary of the club to which the owners belong.

I hereby certify that the pigeons to the number of …………………… consigned from …………………… to …………………… on …………………… are the property of members of …………………… Club, and are being forwarded to …………………… for the purpose of competing in a race (or training).

28.3 Empty boxes, etc.
The empty hampers and boxes after pigeons are liberated shall be returned free to the sending station except that for inter-island consignments the rail air or rail ferry charges for empty returns conveyed inter-island are to be added to the charges for the outward journey.

28.4 Pigeons not to be liberated
Pigeons not forwarded for liberation shall be charged on weight or measurement at parcels rates plus 50 percent.

28.5 Terminal charge
The terminal charge as provided in clause 24.5 shall not be enforced for homing pigeons and such consignments shall not be delivered by the Corporation.
