PRELIMINARY

1. INTERPRETATION
In this general scale of charges, unless the context otherwise requires:

“Baggage” means wearing apparel and other similar personal belongings designed and usually carried by travellers for their personal use, and contained in a bag, box, portmanteau, suitcase, trunk, valise or any other article commonly used for the purpose, but shall not include merchandise or other goods or chattels which, though being carried with the passenger’s baggage, are not designed and carried for such use;

“Checked baggage” means baggage checked or registered with the Corporation as baggage intended to be carried incidental to a contract for carriage of a passenger;

“Corporation” means the New Zealand Railways Corporation;

“Corporation booking office” means a place designated by the Corporation and open for the sale of tickets on all or some Corporation services;

“Corporation service” means any transport service carried on by the Corporation, and includes a train, a railcar, an electric multiple unit coach, an omnibus, a coach, an aircraft and a rail ferry or any other vessel operated by the Corporation;

“Goods” means goods, baggage, and chattels of any description; and includes animals and plants; and also includes money, documents, and all other things of value;

“Guard” means any employee of the Corporation wearing any uniform of the Corporation who is in charge or apparent charge of any Corporation service; and includes any other employee wearing such uniform; and any person who has authority or apparent authority to examine or collect tickets whether on any Corporation service or elsewhere on a railway;

“Guide dog” means a dog certified by the director of the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind at Auckland as being a trained dog of quiet disposition;

“Hand baggage” means baggage not being checked baggage;

“Ordinary fare” means the full single fare for an adult or child as appropriate;

“Person” includes a Corporation sole and also a body of persons, whether incorporated or not;

“Station” includes any bus terminal, officered railway station, flag station, platform, stopping place, or crossing-siding, and also includes the area within the station limits as defined by the Corporation;

“Ticket” includes any ticket, document, medallion, or pass issued by the Corporation or its agents in connection with the use of any Corporation service.
