Proposed Boundaries and Classifications of the General Electoral Districts of New Zealand
The Representation Commission appointed in pursuance to section 15 of the Electoral Act 1956 hereby publishes, in accordance with the provisions of section 18 of the said Act, the proposed boundaries of the electoral districts of the North and South Islands of New Zealand and of the classification of those districts required for the purposes of the Higher Salaries Commission Act 1977 and, further gives notice that written objections, to the same, will be received by the undersigned, the Chairman of the Commission, at the office of Surveyor-General, Department of Lands and Survey, Private Bag, Wellington, not later than Friday, the 10th day of December 1982 for consideration by the aforesaid Commission. If objectors wish to appear before the Commission they must say so in their written objections.
Maps of the proposed districts may be seen at the office of any city or borough council, district or county council, district community council, or town board; or the office of the Chief Surveyor at Auckland, Hamilton, Gisborne, Napier, New Plymouth, Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson, Hokitika, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill or the office of the Chief Electoral Officer at Lower Hutt, all electorate offices, and district courts.
Counties, districts, wards (ridings), cities, boroughs, district communities, and town districts where mentioned in this notice shall unless otherwise stated, be existing on 24 March 1981.

SCHEDULE
BAY OF ISLANDS
Population: 32 329 Classification Rural or Predominantly Rural
Comprises the counties of Mangonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, and Bay of Islands, all internal boroughs, adjacent islands and the islands of Three Kings.
WHANGAREI
Population: 33 002 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Comprises the city of Whangarei.
KAIPARA
Population: 32 449 Classification Rural or Predominantly Rural
Comprises the counties of Hobson, Whangarei, and Otamatea and that portion of Albert Aral Ward of Rodney County to the east of No. 1 State Highway extending from Wellsford to Te Hana Creek; and including all internal boroughs and town districts, adjacent islands, Hen and Chicken island group, the Mokohinau Islands, and Poor Knights Islands.
RODNEY
Population: 32 766 Classification Rural or Predominantly Rural
Commencing at the mean high water mark on the northern boundary of the East Coast Bays City and following westerly along that boundary and the back of the sections on the north side of Sunset Road, along No. 1 State Highway, and Schnapper Rock Road to the mean high water mark at Lucas Creek; thence along that mean high water mark, Riverhead Road, Deacon Road, to Old Main North Road; thence northerly along the Riverhead State Forest boundary to Chatham Road; thence westerly along that road and the northern boundary of Kumeu Ward (crossing the North Auckland Railway at Wharepapa) to the mean high water mark of the sea; thence northerly along that water mark to the Kaipara Electoral boundary; thence easterly along that boundary and the mean high water mark of the sea to the boundary of the City of East Coast Bays including adjacent islands.
GLENFIELD
Population: 32 635 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing on the main high water mark of Lucas Creek and proceeding easterly along Schnapper Rock Road and easterly, southerly and westerly along the Rodney, East Coast Bays, Northshore, and Birkenhead Electoral District boundaries to the mean high water mark of the sea; thence northerly along that water mark to Schnapper Rock Road
EAST COAST BAYS
Population: 31 751 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Comprises the East Coast Bays City and that part of Takapuna City to the north of a line commencing at Forest Hill Road and proceeding easterly along that road, Richards Avenue and along the back of the sections between Richards Avenue and Selwyn Crescent to East Coast Road, along Dewsbury Street, Parr Terrace, Seaview Road, Marama Street, Rahopara Street and its extension to the mean high water mark of the sea.
BIRKENHEAD
Population: 32 652 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at the intersection of the Birkenhead City boundary and Eskdale Roads and proceeding easterly along that road, Glenfield road, Pupuke Road, Ocean View Road, Eban Avenue across open space and along the back sections fronting Uppingham Crescent and along the back of sections fronting Lynden Avenue to the Northcote Borough boundary; thence easterly along Coronation Road and its extension to the North Shore Electoral Boundary; southerly along that boundary and westerly along the Northcote Borough and Birkenhead City boundaries to Eskdale Road.
NORTH SHORE
Population: 32 309 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at the mouth of Hillcrest Creek near the Esmonde Road interchange and proceeding north-westerly along the Northcote Borough Boundary and the western boundaries of A.F. Thomas Park to Archers Road, along that road, the Auckland-Waiwera Motorway, the northern boundary of Becroft Park, Becroft Drive, Havelock Avenue, Forest Hill Road, Seine Road, Knightsbridge Drive, the southern boundary of East Coast Bays Electoral District and the mean high water mark of the sea to Hillcrest Creek.
WEST AUCKLAND
Population: 32 675 Classification Partially Urban and Partially Rural
Commencing at the mean high water mark of Waitemata Harbour at Riverhead Road, and proceeding southerly along the electoral district boundary of Helensville, N.Z. Gazette, 20 June 1977, page 1701, the Henderson Borough Boundary, Sturges Road, Henderson Valley Road, Gum Road, and its extension to the Helensville Electoral boundary, aspreviously described, then generally westerly along that boundary, northerly along the mean high water mark of the sea and easterly along the Rodney electoral boundary to the Waitemata Harbour.
WAITAKERE
Population: 33 347 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at the intersection of Sturges Road and the Henderson Borough Boundary and proceeding south-easterly along that boundary, Millbrook Road, Wattle road, View Road, Great North Road, West Coast Road, Rua Road, Croydon Road, Titirangi District, N.Z. Gazette, 20 June 1977, page 1701, to the mean high water mark of Manukau Harbour; thence westerly, northerly, and easterly along that electoral boundary to Forest Hill Road; thence north-easterly along the boundary of the West Auckland Electoral District to Sturges Road.
TE ATATU
Population: 32 645 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at Huruhuru Creek and proceeding easterly and southerly along the boundary of the electoral district of Te Atatu, N.Z. Gazette, 20 June 1977, page 1701, to Great North Road; thence westerly and northerly along the boundaries of Waitakere and West Auckland Electoral Districts to Huruhuru Creek.
NEW LYNN
Population: 32 212 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at Wairau Creek and proceeding north-easterly along the boundary of New Lynn Electoral District, N.Z. Gazette, 20 June 1977, page 1701, to New North Road; thence southerly along that road, Blockhouse Bay Road, Terry Street, Whitney Street, Donovan Street and Lewis Street to the mean high water mark of Manukau Harbour; thence westerly along that water mark and northerly along the boundaries of the electoral districts of Waitakere and Te Atatu to Wairau Creek.
MOUNT ALBERT
Population: 33 144 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
Commencing at Meola Creek and proceeding easterly along the electoral district boundary of Mt. Albert, N.Z. Gazette, 20 June 1977, page 1701, to the boundary of St. Josephs School; thence south-westerly along that boundary to the Auckland-Kumeu Motorway; thence easterly along that motorway, Alexander Street and its extension to Dominion Road; thence south-westerly along that road, Balmoral Road, Arabi Road, Tranmere Road, Sandringham Road, and Mt. Albert Road to the existing boundary of Mt. Albert Electoral District as previously described; thence westerly and northerly along that boundary to Meola Creek.
ROSKILL
Population: 32 619 Classification Urban or Predominantly Urban
