Board Appointed to Have Control of Lake Okataina Scenic Reserves

DAVID BEATTIE, Governor-General

PURSUANT to subsection (1) of section 17 of the Maori Purposes Act 1931 and section 30 (1) of the Reserves Act 1977, His Excellency the Governor-General hereby appoints—

The Commissioner of Crown Lands for the South Auckland Land District, ex officio,

Kapua Te Ua
Wikitoria Ngamihikiteao Rangitakaiho Pene,
Gilbert Tawa Rikihana,
Donald Mairangi Bennett,
George Aramakaraka Hemana,
Andrew Wharehula Rangiheuea,
Cedric Tene Ngahue,
Eliza Raihi Serjeant,

to be a special board by the name of the Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve Board, to have control of the reserves, described in the Schedule hereto, subject to the provisions of the Reserves Act 1977, as scenic reserves.

LAKE OKATAINA SCENIC RESERVES

4388.4028 hectares, more or less, being Sections 6 and 7, Block XVI, Rotoiti Survey District. All Okataina 12 and parts Okataina 3, 4, 5, 6B, 7, 8 and 14 Blocks, situated in Blocks XI, XII, XV XVI, Rotoiti, and III, IV, VIII, Tarawera Survey District. All New Zealand Gazette, 1982, page 1455. Officers of Government of Ross Dependency Appointed

DAVID BEATTIE, Governor-General

WHEREAS, by the Order in Council dated the 30th day of July 1923*, made under the British Settlements Act 1887 of the United Kingdom Parliament, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand for the time being (hereinafter called the Governor) was appointed to be the Governor of the Ross Dependency, and all the powers and authorities which by the said order were given and granted to the Governor for the time being of the Dependency were thereby vested in him:

And whereas the Governor was thereby further authorised and empowered to make all such rules and regulations as might lawfully be made by Her Majesty’s authority for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency:

And whereas, by regulations made by the Governor on the 14th day of November 1923†, it was enacted that all persons appointed by the Governor for the time being of the Dependency should have such power and authority as might be granted them in due course of law, and might be empowered to do such things as might be necessary or desirable to ensure that the laws in force in the Dependency are duly observed and complied with in every respect, and to do all things necessary or expedient for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency, and to safeguard and preserve Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty over and in respect of the Dependency:

And whereas it is expedient that the persons hereinafter named be appointed officers of the Government of the Dependency:

Now, therefore, I, The Honourable Sir David Stuart Beattie, the Governor-General of New Zealand, and as such the Governor of the Ross Dependency, hereby appoint

John Martin Thurston, Esquire

as an officer of the Government of the Dependency for the period beginning on the 4th day of October 1982 and ending with the close of the 15th day of February 1983:

And I hereby confer on the said John Martin Thurston while he holds office all the powers and authorities which may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers and authorities which may be so exercised by a Coroner:

And I hereby also appoint

Allan Richard Mayes, Esquire

as an officer of the Government of the Dependency for the period beginning with the 11th day of October 1982 and ending with the 28th day of February 1983 or such earlier date as he shall leave the Dependency:

And I hereby confer on the said John Martin Thurston and the said Allan Richard Mayes to exercise their functions at such places within the Dependency as may be directed by the officer of the Government of the Dependency in whom is vested the general executive and administrative authority in preserving Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty and the laws and regulations in force in the Dependency.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, as the Governor of the Ross Dependency, this 24th day of September 1982.

NOTICE is hereby given by direction of the Minister of Agriculture that, pursuant to section 48 of the Agricultural Pests Destruction Act 1967, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint

Charles Frederick Smaill, Farmer of Gore

as a member of the Mount Wendon Pest Destruction Board vice G. Pinckney (resigned).

Appointment of the Minister of Internal Affairs to Control and Manage a Reserve and Declaration that the Said Reserve Shall be Subject to the Provisions of the Wildlife Act 1953

PURSUANT to the Reserves Act 1977, the Minister of Lands hereby appoints the Minister of Internal Affairs to control and manage the reserve, described in the Schedule hereto, subject to the provisions of the said Act, as a reserve for Government purpose (wildlife management) and further, declares that the said reserve shall be subject to the provisions of the Wildlife Act 1953.

GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT—COOK COUNTY
