Commission was set up in October 1976 to inquire into the
structure and operation of the judicial system in New Zealand.
The Report is divided into 3 parts—
Part I deals with The Past—A history of the Courts—the
evolution of the Judicial System.
Part II—The Present—The Courts today. Covers the
present court structure, Judicial appointments, and
court administration.
Part III—The future—proposed court structure—sets
out in detail the criteria for reform; the functions of
the High and District Courts. The Judiciary, Court
Administration. Relationship between the courts and
people and the legal profession are other areas that
are discussed at length in this the most comprehensive
section of the report.
The conclusion sets out the recommendations of the Com-
mission supported by tables, graphs, and a list of appendices.
