Boundaries of County of Wairoa and County of Cook Defined

PURSUANT to section 48 of the Local Government Act 1974,
the Secretary for Local Government hereby defines, as set
out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the County of
Wairoa and the County of Cook; the boundaries having pre-
viously been altered by Order in Council made on 20 August
1979, published in Gazette, 23 August 1979, No. 79, p. 2508.

SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF WAIROA

ALL that area in the Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, and South Auck-
land Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at a point
on the sea coast being the north-eastern corner of part Taka-
raroa 5231A Block, in Block XIII, Paritu Survey District,
Hawke's Bay Land District, and proceeding north-westerly
along the north-eastern boundary of the said part block to
Mahanga Road, along a right line to and again along the said
north-eastern boundary and its production to the middle of
the Waiau Stream; thence northerly up that Stream to a point
in line with the southern boundary of part Lot 6, D.P. 1026
(Gisborne Registry); thence north-westerly, generally, to and
along that boundary, and its production across the Palmerston
North-Gisborne Railway, to and along the southern and
western boundaries of the said part Lot 6 and the south-
western boundary of part Lot 1, D.P. 2315, to the north-eastern
boundary of Section 34, Block XI, Nuhaka North Survey
District; thence north-westerly along the said boundary, to
the south-eastern boundary of Section 17, Block XI, Nuhaka
North Survey District; thence south-westerly and north-westerly
along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of the
said Section 17, to No. 2 State Highway and along a right
line to and along the south-western boundary of Section 16,
Block XI, Nuhaka North Survey District, to the westernmost
corner of that section; thence northerly, generally, along the
generally western boundaries of the said Section 16, to the
intersection of Maraetaha and Tarewa-Tokonui Roads; thence
north-westerly along the eastern end of Maraetaha Road to
the generally western side of Tarewa-Tokonui Roads; thence
northerly, generally, along the generally western side of the
said road and the production of the last right lined roadside
south of the Nuhaka River to the middle of that river; thence
south-westerly generally, down the said river to a point in
line with the south-western boundary of part Section 3, Block
X, Nuhaka North Survey District; thence north-westerly to,
and along that boundary to and south-westerly along the
south-eastern boundaries of Section 2, Block VI, Nuhaka
North Survey District, to its southernmost point; thence north-
westerly along the south-western boundaries of the said Section
2, to the north-east corner of Nuhaka 2B2A1; thence westerly,
generally, along the generally northern boundary of Nuhaka
2B2A1, to the eastern boundary of Section 8, Block V, Nuhaka
North Survey District; thence southerly along that boundary
to the northern side of Mangapahi Road; thence westerly
along that roadside to the western boundary of Section 2,
Block V, Nuhaka North Survey District; thence northerly,
generally, along that boundary and the western and northern
boundaries of Section 6, Block V, Nuhaka North Survey
District, and the western boundary of part Mangapoike B,
and its production across the Waingake-Mangapoike Road,
to and along the aforementioned western boundary and its
production to the middle of the Mangapoike River; thence
south-westerly down the middle of that river to its confluence
with the Mangarangiora Stream; thence northerly up the
middle of that stream to a point in line with the south-eastern
boundary of part Mangapoike 2D; thence south-westerly to
and along that boundary to Trig Station F4, in Block VIII,
Opoiti Survey District; thence northerly along a right line to
Trig Station K, in Block III, Opoiti Survey District; thence
south-westerly, northerly, and generally westerly along the
south-eastern, western, and generally southern boundaries of
part Lot 1, D.P. 1381, to its westernmost corner; thence
northerly along the western boundary of the said part Lot 1,
and its production across State Highway No. 36, to and along
the aforementioned boundary and its production to the middle
of the Hangaroa River; thence northerly up the middle of
that river to a point in line with the southern boundary of
part Tauwharetoi 3A, in Block XIV, Hangaroa Survey District;
thence south-westerly to and along that boundary and north-
westerly generally along the south-western boundary of the
said part Tauwharetoi 3A, the south-western boundary of Lot
2, D.P. 2296, the generally southern and western boundaries
of Section 1, Block X, Hangaroa Survey District, and the
production of the last-mentioned boundary across an unformed
legal road to the western boundary of part Section 2, Block X,
Hangaroa Survey District; thence north-westerly, generally,
along the generally western boundary of the said part Section
2, the southern and south-western boundaries of Section 3,
Block V, Hangaroa Survey District, the south-western boundary
of Section 1A, the said Block V, and the production of the
last-mentioned boundary to the middle of an unformed legal
road; thence south-westerly along the middle of the said road
to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 1,
Block VIII, Tuahu Survey District; thence north-easterly,
generally to and along that boundary, and the south-eastern
boundary of Lot 20, D.P. 1950, and the production of the
last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Ohinetewai
Stream; thence north-easterly down the middle of that stream
to and down the middle of the Kawaimanga Stream to the
middle of the Hangaroa River; thence north-westerly up the
middle of the Hangaroa River to a point in line with the
western boundary of Section 13, Block XIII, Ngatapa Survey
District; thence westerly along a right line to Trig Station P,
in Block IV, Tuahu Survey District; thence north-easterly
along the north-eastern boundaries of Lots 20 and 19, D.P.
1950, to the north-easternmost corner of the said Lot 19;
thence westerly along the northern boundaries of the said
Lot 19, part Lots 24 and 23, D.P. 1952, to Trig Station A, in
Block III, Tuahu Survey District; thence north-westerly along
the north-eastern boundaries of part Lot 18, D.P. 1970, and
Section 2, Block XV, Koranga Survey District, to Trig Station
RIV, in Block XV, Koranga Survey District; thence southerly,
along the western boundaries of the said Section 2, and part
Lot 18, and its production across the Waimana-Ruakituri Road
(unformed) to and along the continuation of the last-
mentioned boundary, the western boundary of Lot 25, D.P.
1970, and its production across the Ruakituri River, to and
along the eastern boundaries of part Tahora 2F Section 1,
and Section 2, Block II, Tuahu Survey District, to its inter-
section in Block II, Tuahu Survey District, with a right line
between Trig Station Puketapu, in Block VII, Tuahu Survey
District, and Trig Station Maungapohatu (2126), in Block XII,
Ruatahuna Survey District; thence north-westerly along that
right line to Trig Station Maungapohatu (2126), being a point
on the south-eastern watershed of the Rangitaiki and Whaka-
tane Rivers; thence generally, south-westerly along that water-
shed to the northernmost corner of Pohokura No. 1 Block,
in Block IV, Runganga Survey District, along the western
boundary of Pohokura No. 1 to its south-western corner in
Block XIII, Mangahopai West Survey District; thence gener-
ally, south-easterly along the southern boundary Pohokura
No. 1, through Tataraakina C, along the western boundaries
of the former Tataraakina No. 11 and its production to the
middle of the Mohaka River, down that river to a point in
line with the south-western boundary of Section 2, Block X,
Waitara Survey District, to and along that boundary and the
south-western boundary of Section 2, Block XII, Waitara
Survey District, and its production to the middle of the Wai-
kari River, down the middle of that river to the sea coast, in
Block IX, Moeangiangi Survey District; thence easterly, gener-
ally, along the sea coast including part Section 2, Block V,
Clyde Survey District, and part Section 1 and Section 2,
Block VI, Clyde Survey District, to the point of commence-
ment excluding therefrom the Borough of Wairoa as described
in Gazette, 1909, page 2379, and including Portland Island.

BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF COOK

ALL that area in the Gisborne and Hawke's Bay Land Districts,
bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea coast
of Poverty Bay in line with the south-western side of Section
35, Block VI, Turanganui Survey District, and proceeding
southerly, generally, along the sea coast to the north-eastern
corner of part Takararoa 5231A Block, in Block XIII, Paritu
Survey District, and proceeding north-westerly along the north-
eastern boundary of the said part block to Mahanga Road,
along a right line to and again along the said north-eastern
boundary and its production to the middle of the Waiau
Stream; thence northerly up that stream to a point in line
with the southern boundary of part Lot 6, D.P. 1026 (Gisborne
Registry); thence north-westerly, generally, to and along that
boundary, and its production across the Palmerston North-
Gisborne Railway, to and along the southern and western
boundaries of the said part Lot 6, and the south-western
boundary of part Lot 1, D.P. 2315, to the north-eastern
boundary of Section 34, Block XI, Nuhaka North Survey
District; thence north-westerly along the said boundary, to
the south-eastern boundary of Section 17, Block XI, Nuhaka
