The Harbour Boards (Allowances and Remuneration) Notice 1981

PURSUANT to section 51 of the Harbours Act 1950 (as substituted by section 3 of the Harbours Amendment Act 1980), the Minister of Transport, acting with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance, hereby gives the following notice.

NOTICE

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Harbour Boards (Allowances and Remuneration) Notice 1981.
    (2) This notice shall come into force on the 14th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

  2. Allowances for chairmen of Harbour Boards—The rate of annual allowance payable under section 51 of the Harbours Act 1950 to the chairman of any Harbour Board specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this notice is hereby fixed at the rate specified in relation to that Board in the second column of that Schedule.

  3. Allowances for deputy chairmen of Harbour Boards—(1) The rate of annual allowance payable under section 51 of the Harbours Act 1950 to the deputy chairman of any Harbour Board is hereby fixed at 10 percent of the allowance payable under clause 2 of this notice to the chairman of that Harbour Board.
    (2) The allowance payable to any deputy chairman of a Board under this clause shall be payable in addition to any remuneration payable to him under clause 5 or clause 6 of this notice.

  4. Reduction of annual allowance—Where a chairman or deputy chairman of a Harbour Board serves as such for a period of less than one year, his annual allowance shall be reduced in the proportion that the period of less than one year bears to a complete year.

  5. Remuneration for members of Harbour Boards who act as chairmen of Board committees—(1) The rate of remuneration payable under section 51 of the Harbours Act 1950 to each member of a Harbour Board specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this notice, for attendance at a meeting of a committee of the Board attended by him as chairman of that committee, is hereby fixed at $4 per meeting.
    (2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, no member of a Board shall be entitled to receive under that subclause in respect of any financial year more than $320.
    (3) The remuneration payable to any member of a Board under subclause (1) of this clause in respect of any meeting shall be payable in addition to any remuneration payable to him under clause 6 of this notice in respect of that meeting.
    (4) No remuneration shall be payable under this clause to the chairman of a Harbour Board.

  6. Remuneration for members of Harbour Boards—(1) The rate of remuneration payable under section 51 of the Harbours Act 1950 to each member of a Harbour Board specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this notice, for attendance at any meeting of the Board or any meeting of a committee of the Board attended by him as a Board member, is hereby fixed at the rate specified in relation to that Board in the second column of that Schedule.
    (2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, no member of the Board shall be entitled to receive under that subclause in respect of any financial year more than the amount specified in relation to that Board in the third column of the Second Schedule to this notice.
    (3) No remuneration shall be payable under this clause to the chairman of a Harbour Board.

  7. Application of daily attendance rates—(1) Remuneration payable to any person under clause 5 or clause 6 of this notice shall be paid only once in respect of any one day of 24 hours beginning at midnight, irrespective of the number of meetings attended or chaired by that person on that day.
