✨ Regulatory Notices
3 DECEMBER THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE 3679
The equivalent disturbing current (E.D.I.) shall be calculated according to the following formula:
E.D.I. = 6.25 × 10⁻⁵ √(Σ(n=2 to 50) (nPₙIₙ)²)
Where
Pₙ is the weighting of frequency 50n in the psophometric weighting table.
Iₙ is the measured harmonic current of harmonic order n expressed in amperes.
(c) The psophometric weighting table referred to in paragraph (b) hereof is that which is labelled Table 1 and set out in paragraph 1.3.1 of Chapter XV of the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) Directives concerning the protection of telecommunication lines against harmful effects from electricity lines.
(d) All the harmonic currents referred to in the formula set out in paragraph (b) hereof shall be measured within a thirty minute period under conditions and in the manner set out in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE
-
Harmonic current and voltage measurements shall be made when the system frequency is within 0.5 percent above or below the standard of 50 Hz and the voltage is in accordance with regulation 17 of the Electrical Supply Regulations 1976.
-
The measurements shall be made using a system, including transducers, which complies with the following requirements:
(a) The error in measuring a constant harmonic voltage shall not exceed 0.1 percent of the nominal phase to earth system voltage.
(b) The error in measuring a constant harmonic current shall not exceed 0.2 amperes.
(c) The selectivity of the measuring system shall be such that a signal with 50 Hz separation from that being measured shall have a minimum attenuation of 40 dB.
(d) The measuring system shall either have a measurement time constant between 0.08 seconds and 0.12 seconds inclusive or shall average the input over 4, 5 or 6 cycles of the actual system frequency.
(e) When a constant harmonic signal in the range 100 Hz to 2500 Hz is applied to the measuring system, the maximum indication by overshoot shall not exceed the steady state indication by more than 5 percent.
Dated at Wellington this eleventh day of November 1981.
W. M. DUNCAN, Secretary of Energy.
ADDITIONAL NOTE
In general the limits set down in this notice will be complied with if appliances manufactured to Australian Standard AS2279:1979 Part 1 or British Standard BS5406:1976 are used and if equipment is connected to supply authority systems in accordance with Part 2 of AS2279. Both AS2279 and BS5406 have been endorsed by the Standards Association of New Zealand for use in New Zealand.
A background paper providing further information (including for example Table 1 from Chapter XV of the CCITT Directives referred to in this notice) is available free of charge from the offices of the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy at Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin and the office of the Southland Electric Power Supply at Invercargill.
