Report No. 12. The 50 mph limit was introduced in December 1973 as part of the Government's fuel conservation measures. In this report is a review of the first year's operation of the 50 mph speed limit and its effects.

Report No. 14. This report evaluates the effect alcohol has on driving skills and the part played by alcohol in traffic accidents. Also dealt with is the part played by engineers in reducing the alcohol-involved accidents and other research.

Report No. 15. Is a general review of the roles that traffic rules and their enforcement can reasonably be expected to play in the field of road safety.

Report No. 16. The trends and patterns of injury traffic accidents over the last two decades are traced and described through tables and comments.

This booklet was prepared jointly by Ministry of Works and Development and D.S.I.R. The foreword is written by Bruce W. Spooner, Chairman of the Water Resources Council. Well illustrated with coloured photographs and diagrams, covers the geological origin and general characteristics of lakes, the processes of lake ecosystems and lake problems. Outlines how private citizens and Government bodies can together prevent and solve problems relating to lakes and their environment. A bibliography is listed. A very useful booklet for schools and all concerned with understanding and preserving New Zealand's beautiful lakes.

THE WHARE KOHANGA AND ITS LORE

In this study of Whare Kohanga (the "Nest House") is contained data of baptism rites performed over infants of superior families only, together with other cultural ceremonies applied to infants of high birth. The information obtained was contributed by members of the Ngati-Kahungunu tribe of the North Island. The text has been retained in its original style in the belief that these basic studies should still be readily available without textual alteration.

The New Zealand Gazette is published every Thursday. Notices for insertion from Government Departments must be received by the Gazette Clerk, Department of Internal Affairs, by noon on Tuesdays.

Advertisements will be accepted by the Government Printer until noon on Wednesdays.

Advertisements are charged at the rate of 20c per line.

The number of insertions required must be written across the face of the advertisement.

All notices should be written on one side of the paper, and signatures, etc., should be legible.
