Industries Development Commission Notice No. 1980/3—Inquiry Concerning the New Zealand Plastics Industry

  1. In a notice No. 1979/11 in the New Zealand Gazette of 13 September 1979 (No. 94, page 2629), the Commission invited parties interested in participating in the preparation of a development plan for the New Zealand Plastics Industry to register their interest, and gave notice of its intention to circulate a position paper and hold a public hearing in early 1980.

  2. Those who registered received detailed guidelines for submissions, and their preliminary submissions will form the basis of the Commission’s position papers.

  3. In a letter of 28 April 1980 the Minister of Trade and Industry has, in response to representations of the Commission and the Industry, extended the completion date of the Commission’s inquiry from 30 June until 31 December 1980.

  4. For the purposes of its inquiry the Commission has, after consultation with the Plastics Institute of New Zealand, divided the industry into sectors on a product group basis. Position papers will be circulated to all who lodged submissions on the sectors concerned, or have indicated their interest in doing so.

  5. Public hearings on the sectors will be held in accordance with the Schedule to this notice in the Hearing Room, Eighth Floor, Cumberland House, Upper Willis Street, Wellington, commencing, unless otherwise indicated, at 10.30 a.m., and will continue on subsequent days as required.

  6. Parties intending to make submissions at these hearings should provide, in typewritten form, 11 copies of public submissions and 9 copies of any supporting confidential submissions to reach the Commission in accordance with the Schedule to this notice. Separate submissions are required for each sector. Advice regarding the procedure to be followed in the circulation of these submissions will be given when the position papers are distributed.

  7. All submissions will be required to under oath and parties may be subject to cross-examination by other parties and/or the Commission.
