Environmental Impact Report Notified—Devonport Naval
Base—Proposed New Wharf

The Commission for the Environment has received an
Environmental Impact Report on a proposal by the Ministry
of Defence to build a new wharf at HMNZ Naval Base at
Devonport. The report was prepared by the Ministry of
Works and Development. A new wharf is required because
of the limited remaining life of the existing Calliope Wharf
and is to provide berthing and services for operational ships
of the Royal New Zealand Navy and visiting vessels.

You are invited to make representations in writing on the
environmental aspects of the proposal and the report. Sub-
missions should reach the Commission at P.O. Box 10241,
Wellington (note new P.O. Box number), before 30 May.
Individual submissions may be reproduced in whole or in
part in the audit.

Copies of the report may be obtained either from the Plan
Records Office, Room 706, Ministry of Works and Develop-
ment, Bledisloe Building, Wellesley Street, Auckland, or
from the Devonport Borough Council Office, Victoria Road,
Devonport, or by writing to the District Commissioner of
Works, P.O. Box 5040, Auckland.

The report may be read at the local libraries in Devon-
port, Northcote, and Takapuna; the central libraries in
Whangarei, Auckland, Manukau, Wellington, Christchurch,
and Dunedin; and at the seven universities.

Dated this 1st day of May 1980.

W. J. WENDELKEN,
Acting Commissioner for the Environment.
