Commission Appointing The Honourable Sir David Stuart Beattie, G.C.M.G., Q.C., to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand

ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God Queen of New Zealand and Her Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith:
To Our Trusty and Well-beloved the Honourable Sir David Stuart Beattie, Knight Grand Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, one of Our Counsel learned in the law:
GREETING:
I. We do by this Our Commission under the Seal of New Zealand, appoint you the said Honourable Sir David Stuart Beattie to be, during Our pleasure, Our Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand, with all the powers, rights, privileges, and advantages to the said Office belonging or appertaining.
II. And We do hereby authorise, empower, and command you to exercise and perform all and singular the powers and directions contained in certain Letters Patent under the Great Seal bearing date at Westminster the 11th day of May 1917, constituting the said Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief, and in certain other Letters Patent under the Great Seal, bearing date at Westminster the 18th day of December 1918, amending the same, or in any other Letters Patent adding to, amending, or substituted for the same, according to such Orders and Instructions as the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief for the time being has already received, or as you may hereafter receive from Us.
III. And We do hereby direct that this Our Commission shall take effect on the 31st day of October 1980 and that, you shall, as soon as convenient after this Our Commission takes effect, take the prescribed oaths and enter on the duties of your Office.
IV. And We do hereby command all and singular Our Officers, Ministers, and loving subjects in New Zealand, and all others whom it may concern, to take due notice hereof, and to give their ready obedience accordingly.

Given at Our Court at Saint James’s, and issued under the Seal of New Zealand, this 25th day of September 1980, in the twenty-ninth year of Our Reign.
