THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE
No. 107

Cleavage No. 1, published by Phenix Publishers Ltd;
California Girl, published by Phenix Publishers Ltd; and
California Girl, published by Sunbury Press.

BEFORE THE INDECENT PUBLICATIONS TRIBUNAL
Judge W. M. Willis (chairman).
Mesdames L. Edmond, H. B. Dick, L. P. Nikera.
Hearing: 11 March 1980.

Appearances: Mr P. E. Leloir for Comptroller of Customs.

Decision

These five magazines were commercially imported and come
before the Tribunal as disputed seizures.

Pokin Fun is a magazine with considerable text of an
informative nature relating to aspects of photography of
the human figure. The photographs are contrived, many showing
details of the genital area.

Late Night Extra, like the above, has photographs of nude
or near nude females in poses which are contrived.

California Girl is a “girlie” type magazine, the basis being
the exploitation of the female body.

Cleavage another “girlie” magazine with pictures of nude
or semi-nude females with special emphasis on the display of
breasts. The photographs are crude, and the text has no
substance to it.

Overall, the magazines are old, and have no honest purpose.
The Tribunal classifies each magazine as indecent.

Dated at Wellington this 25th day of August 1980.

Judge W. M. WILLIS, Chairman.
