25th the depression had moved onto the South Island. Heavy rain was reported in Fiordland, Westland, Buller, and parts of Bay of Plenty and Auckland. Many of these areas had 24 hour falls of more than 50 mm. The only areas with light rain were along the east coast of both Islands. A depression which had formed over Australia had moved east into the Tasman Sea on the 26th. On the 27th this depression, and associated cold front, were lying to the west of the South Island and still moving east, but changed direction to north-east on the 28th. As the whole system moved across central New Zealand heavy rain was recorded in Westland, Nelson, Wellington, and Taranaki with moderate falls throughout the North Island and northern half of the South Island. The only areas without rain were parts of Otago, Fiordland and Southland. 24 hour falls of more than 50 mm were reported in the Wellington area up to 9 a.m. on the 29th.

The depression was lying to the east of New Zealand by the morning of the 30th, and a ridge of high pressure extended into the Tasman Sea from an anticyclone centred over Australia. By the afternoon of the 30th the anticyclone was situated in the Tasman Sea, and pressures were low to the north-west of New Zealand as a depression developed off the Australian coast. There was some isolated rain throughout the North Island and along the east coast of the South Island. The depression in the north Tasman Sea had moved south-east towards New Zealand on the 31st, and the anticyclone had moved eastwards away from the country. Late on the 31st the cold front ahead of the depression moved onto the North Island bringing heavy rain to Northland. Temperatures were near normal at the end of the month.
