High Country—those watersheds upstream from and lying west of a line joining points: (1) the Lake Coleridge Powerhouse on the Rakaia River at the Southern Boundary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation District, (2) Woodstock on the Waimakariri River, (3) the junction of the South Branch with the Hurunui River, (4) Marble Point Quarry south of Hanmer at the Waiau River, (5) the junction of Palmer Stream with the Clarence River at the Northern Boundary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation District. Low Country—that part of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation District excluding High Country areas described above.

Shooting hours: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. or any period within these hours except that during the period 18 June 1979 to 28 October 1979 inclusive, and midnight 1 February 1980 to 23 March 1980 at midnight inclusive, Canada goose may be hunted or killed 24 hours per day.

Decoy limit: No limit.

Special Conditions

  1. No hut, mudhole, stand, hide, shelter, maimai, boat, louvre, or cylinder or other contrivance shall be used for the hunting or killing of game in any part of Lake Ellesmere in which the water is of a greater depth than 60 centimetres, excepting such areas as may be decided upon by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, provided that nothing in this special condition shall prevent any person using any vessel for the purpose of retrieving game that has been killed or wounded.

No person shall use, or cause to be used, on any water within the district for the hunting or killing of game any fixed stand, pontoon, hide, maimai, or loo, except within a distance of 10 metres from the margin of such water in non-tidal waters, or from the low-water mark in tidal waters or, where raupo abounds, 10 metres from the outside edge of such raupo.
