Fixing Date on Which Certain Returns Under the Fire Service Act 1975 are to be Furnished

Pursuant to section 51 of the Fire Service Act 1975, it is hereby notified that the amount of premiums received by or due to fire insurance companies during the year ended 31 December 1977, shall be transmitted to the New Zealand Fire Service Commission in the manner prescribed by the said section on or before Friday, 3 March 1978.

The following certificate has been executed on a sealed copy of the Ashburton Borough Bylaw Number 2 (1977) (Cyclists and Pedestrians on Bridge) made by Special Order by the Ashburton Borough Council at a meeting held on 7 November 1977 and confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on 12 December 1977.

Southland Polytechnicβ€”Declared to be a Community College

Pursuant to section 90a of the Education Act 1964, the Minister of Education declares that the Southland Polytechnic shall cease to be a technical institute and shall be a community college, with effect from the 1st day of April 1978.

Southland Community College Notice 1978

Pursuant to section 69 of the Education Act 1964, the Minister of Education gives the following notice:

NOTICE

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Southland Community College Notice 1978.
    (2) This notice shall come into force on the 1st day of April 1978.

  2. There shall be a board of governors, to be known as the Southland Community College Council, which shall control the Southland Community College.

  3. The Southland Community College Council shall be constituted as follows:
    (a) One member appointed by the Council of the University of Otago;
    (b) One member appointed by the Southland Branch of the Society of Accountants;
    (c) One member appointed jointly by the Southland Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and the Southland Branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers;
    (d) One member elected by the principals of the schools listed in the Schedule to this notice, who shall also be the principal of one of these schools;
    (e) One member appointed by the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce;
    (f) One member appointed by the Southland Branch of the National Council of Women in New Zealand Inc.;
    (g) Two members elected by the association of employees in local industries situated within the land district of Southland;
    (h) Two members elected by the associations of employers in local industries situated within the land district of Southland;
    (i) One member appointed by the Southland Branch of the Workers Educational Association;
    (j) One member appointed by the Southland Community Arts Council;
    (k) One member elected by cultural, recreational, religious, sporting, welfare and youth organisations in Southland;
    (l) One member appointed jointly by the Invercargill City Council, the Southland County Council, and the Wallace County Council;
    (m) One member who shall be the principal of the Southland Community College;
    (n) One member who shall represent the staff of the Southland Community College, and who shall be elected by full-time teachers employed by the council, and who shall also be a full-time teacher employed by council;
    (o) (i) One member who shall represent the students of the Southland Community College, and who shall be elected to a term of office of one academic year by students of the college, and who shall also be a student of the college:
    Provided that the first election of the member shall take place as soon as practicable after the opening date of the college, being the 1st day of April 1978;
    (ii) Subject to subparagraph (i) of this paragraph, the election of the student representative for each academic year shall take place as soon as practicable after the commencement of each academic year;
    (iii) The member elected pursuant to subparagraph (i) of this paragraph shall hold office until the 1st day of February in the year after the year of his election and, if on that date the election of his successor has not been notified to the council, he shall continue to hold office until the date on which that election is notified; and
    (iv) For the purposes of subparagraph (i) of this paragraph a "student of the college" shall be defined as any student enrolled in a course of study at the Southland Community College at the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representative and the term "academic year" shall be defined as being the period from the 1st day of February in any one calendar year and ending with the 31st day of January in the subsequent calendar year;
    (p) One member elected by the governing bodies of the schools listed in the Schedule to this notice; and
    (q) Not more than two members co-opted by the council itself, if and when it thinks fit, and for such term or terms as it thinks fit.
