69 (2) of the Commerce Act 1975, the Examiner of Commercial Practices proceeded to conduct a full investigation of the proposal; AND whereas in the course of conducting that investigation the Examiner of Commercial Practices was notified by Fletcher Holdings Ltd. that it wished to withdraw the proposal; NOW, therefore, the Examiner of Commercial Practices, hereby gives notice of the withdrawal of his intention to report to the Commerce Commission on this proposal.

Industrial Relations Act 1973—Proposed Cancellation of Registration of Industrial Union

PURSUANT to section 195 of the Industrial Relations Act 1973, it is hereby notified that the registration of The Otago and Southland Tanners’ Industrial Union of Employers, registered No. 1715, situated at 218 George Street, Dunedin, will, unless cause to the contrary is shown, be cancelled on the expiration of 6 weeks from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette.

Amendment to the Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand

PURSUANT to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1965, the Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand, at the annual general meeting held on 17 May 1978, passed a resolution amending the rules of the Society published in the New Zealand Gazette, on 22 December 1965, the effect of such resolution being:

SECTION A—ADMISSION AND DUTIES OF MEMBER BODIES

A1. Council shall consider applications for admission as member bodies from the following:

(a) any duly constituted organisation having declared objectives of promoting science as a whole within a region of New Zealand; and

(b) any duly constituted body of scientists which is active in promoting a branch of science on a national basis in New Zealand.

A2. When considering the merits of such applications, Council shall have regard for whether the applicant body:

(a) holds periodic meetings or conferences at which scientific papers are delivered or specific topics discussed in a scientific manner;

(b) publishes scientific research papers or reports;

(c) assists or encourages visits by scientists from other parts of New Zealand or overseas;

(d) maintains a public museum, library or observatory; or

(e) represents a majority of the professional scientists in the appropriate field working in New Zealand.

A3. Admission shall be by resolution carried by a two-thirds majority of Council members present at a meeting held as laid down in section C of these Rules.

A4. Council shall from time to time review the activities of member bodies and shall have power to discontinue affiliation of a member body which in its opinion has ceased to qualify for membership. Such disaffiliation shall be by resolution carried by a two-thirds majority of Council members as under A3. above.

A5. Each member body shall pay to the Society a membership fee not later than May 1 of each financial year. The fee shall be $20 (NZ) or such greater sum as the Council may determine.

A6. Each member body shall send to the Society an annual report due on May 1 each year. This report shall list its activities during the year and include an audited statement of income and expenditure.

SECTION B—THE ELECTION OF COUNCIL AND OFFICERS
