Exempting Land in the South Auckland Land District from
the operation of Part III of the Coal Mines Act 1925

KEITH HOLYOAKE, Governor-General

Pursuant to section 171 of the Coal Mines Act 1925, I,
Sir Keith Jacka Holyoake, the Governor-General of New
Zealand, do hereby exempt the land described in the Schedule
hereto from the operation of Part III of the said Act.

SCHEDULE

PART Allotment 69: Pepepe Parish, situated in Block XIV,
Rangiriri Survey District, S.O. Plan 49168A: area 3.3737
hectares, more or less. Certificate of title No. 769/278.

Reserving, nevertheless, unto the Crown firstly, in terms
of section 168A of the Coal Mines Act 1925, all coal existing
in its natural condition on or under the surface of the said
land, and secondly in terms of section 8 of the Mining Act
1971, every mineral existing in its natural condition on or
under the surface of the said land.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, this 2nd day of December 1977.

Officers of Government of Ross Dependency Appointed

KEITH HOLYOAKE, Governor-General

WHEREAS, by the Order in Council dated the 30th day of July
1923*, made under the British Settlements Act 1887 of the
United Kingdom Parliament, the Governor-General and
Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand for the time being
(hereinafter called the Governor) was appointed to be the
Governor of the Ross Dependency, and all the powers and
authorities which by the said order were given and granted
to the Governor for the time being of the Dependency were
thereby vested in him:

And whereas, by regulations made by the Governor on the
14th day of November 1923†, it was enacted that all persons
appointed by the Governor for the time being of the Dependency
should have such power and authority as might be granted
them in due course of law, and might be empowered to do
such things as might be necessary or desirable to ensure that
the laws in force in the Dependency are duly observed and
complied with in every respect, and to do all things necessary
or expedient for the peace, order and good government of the
Dependency, and to safeguard and preserve Her Majesty's
rights and sovereignty over and in respect of the Dependency:

And whereas it is expedient that the persons hereinafter
named be appointed officers of the Government of the Dependency:

Now, therefore I, the Right Honourable Sir Keith Jacka
Holyoake, the Governor-General of New Zealand, and as
such the Governor of the Ross Dependency, hereby appoint

Robert Samuel Straight, Esquire, M.V.O.

as an officer of the Government of the Dependency, until
noon on the 20th day of February 1978:

And I also hereby appoint

John Ridgway Lythgoe, Esquire

as an officer of the Government of the Dependency with effect
from noon on the 20th day of February 1978 and thereafter
during pleasure:

And I hereby confer on them while they respectively hold
office all the powers and authorities which may be exercised in
New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers
and authorities which may be so exercised by a Coroner:

And I also hereby appoint

Randolph William Waller, Esquire

as an officer of the Government of the Dependency during
pleasure; and I hereby confer on him all the powers and
authorities which may be exercised in New Zealand by a
Postmaster:

The said Robert Samuel Straight, John Ridgway Lythgoe,
and Randolph William Waller to exercise their functions at
such places within the Dependency as may be directed by the
officer for the time being appointed as an officer of the
Government of the Dependency in whom is vested the general
executive and administrative authority in preserving Her
Majesty's rights and sovereignty and the laws and regulations
in force in the Dependency.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, as the Governor of the Ross Dependency
this 10th day of February 1978.

Appointing Two Deputy Members to the National Water and
Soil Conservation Authority

KEITH HOLYOAKE, Governor-General

Pursuant to section 10 of the Water and Soil Conservation
Act 1967, I, The Right Honourable Sir Keith Jacka Holyoake,
the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby appoint

Terrence Mortimer McKewen, of Wellington, secretary,
as deputy to Cluther Nantes Mackenzie, and

Ewen Allen Cameron, of Mauriceville, farmer, as deputy
to William Roy Holmes,
on the National Water and Soil Conservation Authority.

As witness the hand of his Excellency the Governor-
General this 8th day of February 1978.

Appointment of Licensing Authority for the Auckland
Harbour Ferry Service District

Pursuant to section 96 of the Transport Act 1962, the
Minister of Transport hereby appoints

Wilfred James Allingham

of Auckland, as Licensing Authority for the Auckland Harbour
Ferry Service District for a term commencing on the 1st
day of May 1978 and ending on the 6th day of July 1982.

Appointment of Transport Licensing Authority

Pursuant to section 93 of the Transport Act 1962, the
Minister of Transport hereby appoints

Wilfred James Allingham

of Auckland, as Transport Licensing Authority for the No
1 and 2 Transport Districts and for the Auckland Transport
District for a term commencing on the 1st day of May 1978
and ending on the 6th day of July 1982.

Pursuant to section 2 of the Judicature Amendment Act
1930, the Chief Justice of New Zealand has appointed

Peter George Spenser Penlington, Esquire,

of Christchurch, barrister, to be a member of the Rules
Committee to hold office for a term expiring on the 31st
day of December 1980.
