The Taumatatawhero Ecological Area Notice 1977

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as amended by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976) and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land, described in the Schedule hereto, is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of native wildlife consistent with the proper use and management of State forest land. The State forest land so dedicated shall be known as the Taumatatawhero ecological area.

3. The dedicated area is situated on the Mairoa Plateau within Tawarau State Forest 167 and contains rimu-miro podocarp-hardwood forest (Forest Service No. 1/167/E04).
