branded on the end as described in clause 1.3 above in
addition to the repetitive surface brand.
Variations to this clause are:
2.2.1 Scantlings and framing timbers.
2.2.1.1 Which are dressed or planer gauged on all four sides
shall be repetitively surface branded on at least one face
except where a clear face is required on all four sides when a
clear legible burn brand on the end will suffice provided a
dispensation in accordance with paragraph 5 below is obtained.
2.2.1.2 Which are dressed or planer gauged on less than
four surfaces shall either be surface branded in accordance
with subclause 2.2.1.1 above or end branded in accordance
with definition 1.3.
2.2.1.3 Which are dressed or planer gauged remote from the
site before treatment shall not be surface branded prior to
treatment but shall be end branded at the treatment plant
in accordance with clause 1.3 above. In addition, the edge
of each piece of the outer tiers of the packet is to be burn
branded not less than 1 m from the butt end. (Precise details
of this branding may be found in Section B of the publication
Timber Preservation in New Zealand: Specifications or
obtained from the Secretary T.P.A.)
2.2.2 Weatherboards, flooring, fascia, barge, and cover
boards shall be repetitively surface branded on the back
of the board.
2.2.3 Finger jointed material treated to a Commodity Speci-
fication other than C8 shall be repetitively surface branded
in accordance with clause 1.4.1 above and in addition either:
2.2.3.1 Include the commodity specification reference in such
brand; or
2.2.3.2 End brand in accordance with clause 1.3.
2.2.4 All other dressed lines shall be:
2.2.4.1 Repetitively surface branded; or
2.2.4.2 Branded with a single surface brand within 150 mm
of the end; or
2.2.4.3 End brand as detailed in clause 1.3.
2.3 Exemptions from the need to brand:
2.3.1 Fence battens and droppers.
2.3.2 Timber 1250 mm² and less in cross-section.
2.3.3 Timber less than 19 mm nominal sawn dimension in
thickness.

Roundwood—All roundwood shall be branded as detailed
in clauses 1.1 (brand), 1.2 (burn brand), and 1.3 (end brand),
or with a disc as described in clause 1.7 above. -
Veneer, Plywood, and Particle Board—4.1 Veneer and
Plywood Low-Hazard Protection:
4.1.1 Plywood made from veneers treated to Commodity
Specification C10 or pressure treated in made-up form shall
be branded on the back or edge of each sheet with the plywood
manufacturer’s name, mark, or registered number plus the
identification “C10”.
4.1.2. Veneers treated to Commodity Specification C10 for
disposal for manufacture into plywood shall have each package
or bundle marked with the registered number of the treatment
plant with, as a minimum, the identification “C10”.
4.1.3 Plywood made up from untreated veneers and with an
insecticide added to the glue shall be branded on the back or
edge of each sheet with, as a minimum, the plywood manu-
facturer’s name, or registered number or trade mark and such
brand shall include the words “TREATED-TGL”.
4.2 Veneer and Plywood Moderate Hazard Protection:
4.2.1 Plywood made from veneers treated to Commodity
Specification C11 or pressure treated in made-up form shall be
branded on the back or edge of each sheet with the plywood
manufacturer’s name, mark, or registered number, plus the
identification “C11”.
4.2.2 Veneers treated to C11 and disposed of for manufacture
into plywood shall have each package or bundle marked with
the registered number of the treatment plant together with the
identification “C11”.
4.3 Particle Board Moderate Hazard Protection: Particle
Board treated to Commodity Specification C12 shall be branded
on the back or edge of each sheet with the manufacturer’s
name, mark, or registered number with, as a minimum, the
identification “C12”.

Dispensations—Notwithstanding anything in the provisions
of this notice, the Authority may, if it thinks fit, in special
circumstances, grant dispensation from any of the foregoing
provisions. -
Effective date—The provisions of this notice shall come
into force on the 1st day of January 1978. -
Previous notice cancelled—The provisions of previous
notices published in the Gazette are hereby revoked.
