Industries Development Commission Notice No. 1977/6—General Textile Industry Reference

PUBLIC HEARINGS APRIL/MAY 1978

  1. The Commission gave notice in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 109, of 27 October 1977, of its intention to notify the programme of the public hearings in April/May 1978 in relation to the general textile industry inquiry and the closing dates for submissions for those hearings in the New Zealand Gazette, of 17 November 1977, and in the principal newspapers. The Commission’s Notice, No. 1977/4, refers.

  2. Hearings on sectors of the industry will be preceded by a hearing on general principles relevant to all products. At this hearing comment will also be invited on the application of the common assumptions and guidelines referred to in Notice No. 1977/4, and to be notified by the Commission in November 1977 and January 1978 respectively. It is anticipated that all parties to the general textile industry inquiry will make submissions and appear at the hearing on general principles, for which separate submissions will be required.

  3. The product groups used to describe the contents of the sector hearings were agreed by the steering group set up to advise the Commission on procedural matters and in general follow the groupings of products used by the manufacturing sector of the industry. Additional products have been added for the sake of completeness and these have been described in terms of Customs Tariff headings. Separate submissions are required for each of the sector hearings.

  4. The hearing on general principles will be held on Wednesday, 26 April 1978, in the Hearing Room, Eighth Floor, Cumberland House, Upper Willis Street, Wellington, commencing at 10.30 a.m., and sector hearings will follow in the order outlined in the schedule to this notice. The dates for the sector hearings will be notified in the New Zealand Gazette not later than 6 April 1978.

  5. Parties intending to make submissions at these hearings should provide in typewritten form 14 copies of public submissions and 12 copies of confidential submissions to reach the Commission’s office not later than Friday, 10 March 1978.

  6. Parties are requested to notify the Commission by 27 January 1978 of their intention to participate in the inquiry and the product groups in respect of which they propose to make submissions.

Dated at Wellington this 17th day of November 1977.

Secretary, Industries Development Commission.
