Approval of Motor-Cycle Safety Helmets in Terms of Traffic
Regulations 1956

PURSUANT to subclause (1) of regulation 49 of the Traffic
Regulations 1956*, the Secretary for Transport hereby ap-
proves for the purpose of regulation 29 of the said regula-
tions, motor-cycle safety helmets of the make and type
described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE
SAFETY helmets manufactured by Star Products Ltd., Christ-
church, and marked with the model name "Pol. Star Safety-
line" and bearing the certification mark of the Standards
Association of New Zealand NZS 1884, and the licence
number 2069.

Exemption from Restrictions as to Flashing Lights

PURSUANT to regulation 25A of the Traffic Regulations 1956*,
the Secretary for Transport hereby exempts the vehicles,
described in the Schedule hereto, from the restriction imposed
by regulation 34 (4) of the said regulations to the extent
that in terms of regulation 39 (1) and (2) they may be
equipped with:

(a) Head lamps, capable of flashing in the dipped mode,
for use during daylight hours while on urgent fire
brigade or urgent ambulance service.
(b) Two flashing red or white lights at the front of the
vehicle for use while on urgent fire brigade or urgent
ambulance service.

SCHEDULE

  1. Vehicles equipped for ambulance duty and approved by
    the Ambulance Transport Advisory Board.
  2. Vehicles equipped for attendance at fires and approved
    by the Fire Services Commission or any other fire authority.

Approval of Red Reflectors for Motor Vehicles (Other than
Heavy Goods Service Vehicles) in Terms of Traffic Regula-
tions 1956

PURSUANT to regulation 49 (1) of the Traffic Regulations
1956*, the Secretary for Transport hereby approves, for the
purpose of regulation 41 (2) of the said regulations, red
reflectors of the make and type described in the Schedule
hereto.

SCHEDULE
TAIL lamp assemblies incorporating reflex red reflectors bear-
ing the following identification:
"DES REG 49330"
and fitted to Holden 1 ton chassis/cab motor vehicles.

Exemption from the Restrictions as to Flashing Red Lights

PURSUANT to Regulation 25A of the Traffic Regulations 1956*,
the Secretary for Transport hereby exempts from the require-
ment of Regulation 34 (4) of the said Regulations vehicles,
described in the Schedule hereto, to the effect that they may
be equipped with one flashing or revolving red light on the
top of the vehicle and visible in all directions subject to
the condition that this exemption shall not authorise the use
of the said vehicles in terms of the proviso to Regulation 18
(1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976† upon the coming into
force of those Regulations.

SCHEDULE
VEHICLES approved by the Waikato Hospital Board as emer-
gency "flying squad" vehicles for use while carrying a regis-
tered medical practitioner on urgent medical duty.
