who shall himself be a teacher employed by the
Council and teaching at the Central Institute of
Technology;
(p) One member who shall represent the staff of the Petone
Technical Institute, and who shall be elected by full-
time teachers employed by the Council and teaching
at the Petone Technical Institute, and who shall
himself be a teacher employed by the Council and
teaching at the Petone Technical Institute;
(q) (i) One member who shall represent the students of
the Central Institute of Technology, and who shall
be elected to a term of office of one year by students
of the Institute, and who shall himself be a student
of the Institute;
(ii) For the purposes of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (q) of this clause a “student of the Institute”
shall be defined as “any student enrolled in a course
of study at the Central Institute of Technology at
the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representative”;
(r) (i) One member who shall represent the students of
the Petone Technical Institute, and who shall be
elected to a term of office of one year by the
students of the Institute, and who shall himself be a
student of the Institute;
(ii) For the purposes of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (r) of this clause a “student of the Institute”
shall be defined as any student enrolled in a course
of study at the Petone Technical Institute at the time
of the calling of nominations for the election of the
student representative;
(s) Not more than five members may be co-opted by the
Council itself, if and when it thinks fit, to hold
office at the pleasure of the Council and to represent
groups in trade, industry, commerce or the professions not otherwise represented on the Council
but having an interest in a major course or courses
provided by the Central Institute of Technology or
by the Petone Technical Institute;
(t) One member may be co-opted by the Council itself, if and
when it thinks fit, to hold office at the pleasure of
the Council and to represent the Lower Hutt City
Corporation, the Upper Hutt City Corporation, the
Petone Borough Council, the Eastbourne Borough
Council, and the Hutt County Council;
(u) One member may be co-opted by the Council itself, if
and when it thinks fit, to hold office at the pleasure
of the Council and to represent all state secondary
school controlling authorities in the greater Hutt
Valley and Wainuiomata area.
4. (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the
provisions of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (q), subparagraph (i) of paragraph (r) and paragraphs (s), (t) and (u)
of clause 3 of this notice, the members of the Council of
the Central Institute of Technology shall hold office for a
term of three years, but may, from time to time, be re-
appointed or re-elected.
(2) Except in the case of a casual vacancy, or as otherwise provided in this clause, every member shall hold office
until the 30th day of June in the third year after the year
of their appointment or election, and if, on the 30th day
of June, the appointment or election of his successor has
not been notified to the Council, he shall continue to hold
office until the date on which that appointment or election
is notified.
(3) If any member dies, or resigns his office by writing
under his hand addressed to the Council or the Chairman
or the Secretary thereof, or is absent without leave from the
meetings of the Council for three consecutive months, or
while holding office becomes for any reason ineligible to
remain a member, the casual vacancy so created shall be
filled, as soon as practicable thereafter, by the appointment
or election of a new member in the manner in which the
vacating member was appointed or elected, and the member
appointed or elected to fill the vacancy shall hold office for
the residue of the term of office of the member whom he
replaces.
(4) The powers of the Board shall not be affected by any
vacancy in the membership thereof.
5. This notice is in substitution for the Central Institute
of Technology Order 1962 as varied in 1973 and in 1975
by notices in the Gazette†.

The Nelson Polytechnic Notice 1976

PURSUANT to section 69 of the Education Act 1964, the
Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
NOTICE

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Nelson Polytechnic
    Notice 1976.
    (2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its
    publication in the Gazette.
  2. There shall be a board of governors, to be known as
    the Council of the Nelson Polytechnic, which shall control
    the Nelson Polytechnic.
  3. The Council of the Nelson Polytechnic shall be constituted as follows:
    (a) One member appointed by the Nelson Secondary
    Schools Council, who shall be a member of that
    Council, or a member of the board of governors
    of a school under that Council.
    (b) One member being a member of the Nelson Branch of
    the New Zealand Society of Accountants appointed
    by that branch.
    (c) One member being a registered engineer and a member
    of the Nelson Branch of the New Zealand Institution
    of Engineers appointed by that branch.
    (d) One member appointed by the Nelson Branch of the
    New Zealand Master Builders Association Incorporated.
    (e) One member appointed by the New Zealand Retail
    Motor Trade Association, Nelson Branch.
    (f) One member appointed by the Nelson Chamber of
    Commerce.
    (g) One member elected by the Association of Employers
    in local industries situated in the province of Nelson.
    (h) Two members elected by the Associations of Employees in local industries situated in the province
    of Nelson.
    (i) One member who shall be the Principal of the Nelson
    Polytechnic.
    (j) One member who shall represent the staff of the Nelson
    Polytechnic, and who shall be elected by full-time
    teachers employed by the Council, and who shall
    himself be a teacher employed by the Council.
    (k) (i) One member who shall represent the students of
    Nelson Polytechnic, and who shall be elected to a
    term of office of one year by the students of the
    Polytechnic, and who shall himself be a student of
    the Polytechnic.
    (ii) For the purposes of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (k) of this clause a “student of the Poly-
    technic” shall be defined as “any student enrolled
    in a course of study at the Nelson Polytechnic at
    the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representative”.
    (l) Three members to be co-opted by the Council itself, if
    and when it thinks fit.
  4. (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the provisions of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (k) of clause 3
    of this notice, the members of the Council of the Nelson
    Polytechnic shall hold office for a term of 3 years, but may,
