GOODS AND LIVESTOCK

  1. Classification of Goods, Livestock, etc.

  2. Except as may be otherwise provided, goods will be charged for carriage by railway in accordance with the classification set out in paragraph 4 hereof, that is to say—
    Goods for which a class is shown will be charged at the rates prescribed by section 69 for the specified class and goods named in the said paragraph 4 for which no class is shown will be charged at the rates prescribed by the section specified.

With the exception of used empty containers, articles already classified in section 68 which are manufactured from plastic or perspex will be charged in accordance with the classification applicable to plastic or perspex.

  1. (a) All goods described in the following classification or elsewhere in this General Scale of Charges or in the Local Rates Scale of Charges as being at “owner’s risk”; and
    (b) All goods other than those classified in paragraph 4 hereof as Class “A” or Class “B” or Class “C” or Class “D”, or Class “E” plus a prescribed increase, or Class “G”, shall unless a request is made that such goods be received, held, carried, delivered or otherwise dealt with at the risk of the department under and subject to the provisions of section 110, be received, held, carried, delivered or otherwise dealt with at the sole risk in every respect whatsoever of the owner.

  2. The word “dangerous” used in relation to goods denotes that the goods will be conveyed under the regulations applicable to explosives and dangerous goods.

  3. All goods not named in this classification
    Acids, not otherwise specified. Dangerous
    Acid, acetic, boric, citric, cresylic, formic, fumaric, lactic, oleic, sulphamic, sulphurous and tartaric
    Acid, carbonic, packed in casks or wrought-iron drums
    Acid, chromic flake (chromium trioxide), packed in drums. Dangerous
    Acid, sulphuric, muriatic, nitric or hydrochloric. Dangerous—
    Not otherwise specified
    Consigned direct from factory. Minimum quantity 5 tonnes per four-wheeled wagon
    Acid, diluted sulphuric, packed in polythene jars in containers. Dangerous
    Aerated or mineral waters
    Aeroplanes, wings and fuselages; minimum charge as for 2.5 tonnes per four-wheeled wagon, 7.5 tonnes per bogie wagon
    Alumina, sulphate of (ferric alum) for water-purification purposes See section 72
