90. Lime for Manuring Farm Lands

91. New Zealand lime certified for use in dressing land of bona fide farms, orchards, nurseries,
    or market gardens and consigned direct to farmers, orchardists, nurserymen, or market
    gardeners in the following minimum loads will be charged the rates as prescribed in paragraph
    2 hereof:

3. Minimum Charges—Any less quantity than the minimum will be charged at such minimum
   or on actual weight at Class E plus 50 percent whichever is cheaper.
4. Handling—All loading and unloading shall be performed by the owners.
5. Liability—Lime consigned under the provisions of this section will be conveyed at owner’s
   risk.

91. Goods Loaded in Containers

92. (a) Goods conveyed in the following *containers owned by the Railways Department
    will be charged a rate of 20c per tonne in addition to the classified rates applicable to the
    commodity, based on the net weight of the contents:

Bulk flour
Bulk powder—(e.g., lime flour, pozzalan, salt cake, etc.).
Bulk liquids (including bulk tallow, tall oil, molasses, etc.).
Commodities loaded in “General Purpose” containers.

(b) Goods conveyed in the department’s lightweight metal containers will be charged as
follows:
(i) On the gross weight of the container and contents at the rail rate appropriate to the
goods involved, subject to a minimum charge as for 1 tonne gross weight per
container. Where goods classified at Class G are so conveyed, charges will be based
on the gross measurement of the container.
(ii) A hire charge of $3.40 per container will be made in addition to normal freight charges.

2. Demurrage will be charged on each container not discharged by owners and returned to
   the department within 16 †working hours (from the time the container is available at
   destination station for delivery) as follows:

3. Privately-owned containers—Except where otherwise provided, goods railed in specially
   constructed privately-owned containers will be charged as follows:
   (a) Loaded containers—On the gross weight of the container at the appropriate rail rate
   applicable to the goods involved. In the case of Class G goods charges will be based
   on the gross measurement of the container.
   (b) Empty containers—Charges on empty containers will be based on the actual weight of
   the container at Class C with the following exception:
   Collapsible containers which have conveyed goods on the outward journey will,
   when collapsed, be returned to the original forwarding station free of charge.

N.B. This provision will apply only to specially constructed containers as may be approved
by the General Manager, and will not include empty containers such as cartons, cases, or
crates.

3. Goods loaded in containers will be treated as “packed” for the purposes of this section.
4. Crackage—No charge will be made for the use of the department’s crackage facilities to lift
   containers.

*Not applicable to goods conveyed in the department’s insulated containers or petroleum products conveyed in
Railway owned tank wagons. For bulk cement conveyed in Railway owned tank wagons—see section 86.
