SUGGESTIONS FOR TEACHING READING IN INFANT CLASSES
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Reprinted 1975

Teachers have long been asking for first reading books that are closely associated with New Zealand children’s own experiences. The “Ready to Read” books were written to satisfy this need and when the stories were written teachers in more than 30 schools tried out the texts and made detailed reports on them. The book in its final form owes something to these reports.

The “Suggestions for Teaching” book is the teacher’s handbook that introduces the “Ready to Read” series. With its straight forward, uncomplicated approach this handbook may give teachers renewed pleasure in their work.
