Fares for distances exceeding 1130 kilometres will be computed by adding to the fare for
1130 kilometres the ordinary fare (section 2) for the additional distance involved.
2. Availability—Tickets at ordinary fares (section 2) will have unlimited availability.
3. Break of Journey—Except in cases where break of journey is necessitated by the train
service, single tickets for distances of 16 kilometres and under will not be available for break of
journey. Passengers holding ordinary tickets for distances over 16 kilometres may break the
journey at any station at which the train is timed to stop, after travelling 16 kilometres from
the original starting station: Provided that in the case of intersection bookings which necessitate
a sea journey between the North and South Islands, the rail journey may, after the completion
of the sea journey, be broken at Christchurch.
4. Return Journeys—The fare for a return journey will be double the single fare.

3. Special Fares for Silver Star Sleeper Train Services

  1. Fares—The following special fares will be charged for travel on Silver Star Sleeper
    train services on the North Island main trunk route:

  2. Return Journeys will be charged twice the single journey fare.
  3. (a) Child fares will be charged children of 4 years of age and under 15 years of age
    Children under 4 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    (b) The following charges will apply when berths are occupied as shown—
    Parent or guardian occupying one berth with a child under 4
    years of age . One adult fare.
    A child under 4 years of age occupying one berth (sole occupant) One child fare.
    Two children, one under 4 years of age, and one 15 years of age
    or over (in one berth) One adult fare.
    Two children, each over 4 years and under 15 years of age (in
    one berth)
    Two children, one under 4 years, and one under 15 years of age
    (in one berth) One child fare.
    Two children, each under 4 years of age (in one berth) Two adult fares.
    One adult requiring exclusive use of a twinette cabin .. Two adult fares.
    Except as provided above, not more than one person will be permitted to occupy any one
    berth. In no case will more than two children be permitted to occupy the same berth.
