in its natural condition on or under the surface of the said
land and, secondly, in terms of section 8 of the Mining

or under the surface of the said land.

Exempting Land in Otago Land District from the Operation
of Part III of the Coal Mines Act 1925
DENIS BLUNDELL, Governor-General
PURSUANT to section 171 of the Coal Mines Act 1925, I,
Sir Edward Denis Blundell, the Governor-General of New
Zealand, do hereby exempt the land described in the Schedule
hereto from the operation of Part III of the said Act.
SCHEDULE
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT—BRUCE COUNTY
PART Sections 5 and 6, Block XII, North Molyneux Survey
District, being all that area 1 acre 2 roods 35.4 perches
(6966 m²), more or less, as shown coloured blue on S.O. Plan
No. 17470.
Reserving, nevertheless, unto the Crown, firstly, in terms
of section 168A of the Coal Mines Act 1925, all coal existing
in its natural condition on or under the surface of the said
land and, secondly, in terms of section 8 of the Mining

Exempting Residence Site Licence in Westland Land District
from the Operation of Part III of the Coal Mines Act
1925

PURSUANT to section 171 of the Coal Mines Act 1925, I,
Sir Edward Denis Blundell, the Governor-General of New
Zealand, do hereby exempt the Residence Site Licence
described in the Schedule hereto from the operation of Part III
of the said Act.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT—BULLER COUNTY
RESIDENCE Site Licence 11580, being part Section 198, Town
of Millerton situated in Block VI, Ngakawau Survey District:
area, 492 square metres, more or less. All certificate of title,
No. 1D/342, Nelson Registry.
Reserving, nevertheless, unto the Crown, firstly, in terms
of section 168A of the Coal Mines Act 1925, all coal existing
in its natural condition on or under the surface of the said
land and, secondly, in terms of section 8 of the Mining

Officers of Government of Ross Dependency Appointed
DENIS BLUNDELL, Governor-General
WHEREAS, by the Order in Council dated the 30th day of July
1923*, made under the British Settlements Act 1887 of the
United Kingdom Parliament, the Governor-General and
Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand for the time being
(therein and hereinafter called the Governor) was appointed
to be the Governor of the Ross Dependency, and all the
powers and authorities which by the said order were given
and granted to the Governor for the time being of the
Dependency were thereby vested in him:
And whereas the Governor was thereby further authorised
and empowered to make ali such rules and regulations as
might lawfully be made by Her Majesty’s authority for the
peace, order, and good government of the Dependency:
And whereas, by regulations made by the Governor on the
14th day of November 1923†, it was enacted that all persons
appointed by the Governor for the time being of the
Dependency should have such power and authority as might
be granted them in due course of law, and might be em-
powered to do such things as might be necessary or desirable
to ensure that the laws in force in the Dependency are duly
observed and complied with in every respect, and to do all
things necessary or expedient for the peace, order, and good
government of the Dependency, and to safeguard and preserve
Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty over and in respect of
the Dependency:
And whereas it is expedient that the persons hereinafter
named be appointed officers of the Government of the
Dependency:
Now, therefore, I, Sir Edward Denis Blundell, the Governor-
General of New Zealand, and as such the Governor of the
Ross Dependency, hereby appoint
James Arthur Newman, Esquire
as an officer of the Government of the Dependency; and I
hereby confer on him all the powers and authorities which
may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace,
and also the powers and authorities which may be so exercised
by a Coroner.
And I also appoint
Alan Leander John Campbell, Esquire
as an officer of the Government of the Dependency; and I
hereby confer on him all the powers and authorities which
may be exercised in New Zealand by a Postmaster.
The said James Arthur Newman and Alan Leander John
Campbell to exercise their functions at such places within the
Dependency as may be directed by the officer for the time
being appointed as an officer of the Government of the
Dependency in whom is vested the general executive and
administrative authority in preserving Her Majesty’s rights
and sovereignty and the laws and regulations in force in the
Dependency; and to hold office and exercise the duties thereof
during pleasure.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, as the Governor of the Ross Dependency,
this 30th day of August 1974.

Appointment of a Member of the Timber Preservation
Authority
PURSUANT to the Timber Preservation Regulations 1955, the
Minister of Forests hereby appoints
William Alfred Garth (an officer of the Ministry of Works
and Development)
to be a member of the Timber Preservation Authority.
