Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 404—Tariff Inquiries—Prepared Driers of Tariff Item 32.11.000 and Naphthenates and Sulphonaphthenates, Water Insoluble, of Tariff Item 38.19.202—Varnishes, etc., Paints, etc., of Ex-Tariff Headings 32.09 and 32.10 and Composite Solvents, etc., of Tariff Item 38.18.000—Public Hearings

  1. In letters of 22 June 1973 and 5 October 1973 the Minister of Customs asked the Board to undertake inquiries into the goods listed in the attached Schedules with the objective of providing Government with a basis for restructuring and updating the Tariff to establish, where possible, adequate rates of duty protection on the goods involved.

  2. The attention of interested parties is drawn to the fact that the Board may find it appropriate to comment upon and compare the relative merits of protection by means of tariff rates and import licensing when used jointly or separately.

  3. Public hearings in respect of these goods notified earlier were postponed at the request of parties (Notices No. 400 and 401, New Zealand Gazette, of 9 May 1974 and 23 May 1974). For the purpose of taking evidence the Board will now hold public hearings commencing at the times and on the dates shown below in the Hearing Room, Eighth Floor, Cumberland House, Upper Willis Street, Wellington.

  1. Any person who intends to tender evidence should lodge, in typewritten form, 14 copies of public evidence and 12 copies of confidential evidence, to be presented under oath at the public hearing, at the Board’s office no later than the dates shown above. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for Information and Guidance of Interested Parties” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.
