Hamilton with somewhat lighter falls further north. The trough also brought a change to cold southerlies.

As pressures rose over the country the small depression still remained to the east on the 19th and 20th and cold southerlies persisted, with rain in some eastern districts of the North Island. On the following day another small trough of low pressure associated with this depression brought considerable rain to the Gisborne - Bay of Plenty - Waikato area. Some showers were still reported in parts of the North Island on the 22nd as the depression moved away.

The second period of fairly general rain came about a week after the first period, from the 23rd to the 26th. At first rain commenced in Northland with the passage of a small depression, while in the south a trough of low pressure brought rain to the Southland coast and parts of the West Coast. A complex trough was soon moving slowly eastward over the country with considerable rain, especially

on the 24th and 25th. However, the south-eastern part of the South Island received very little rain.

During the last five days of the month rain affected mainly the West Coast. On the 27th and 28th an anticyclone was centred over the North Island while a depression passed close to Campbell Island. For the next two days a belt of high pressure covered most of the country but a weak trough of low pressure affected Westland with showers also in Canterbury and in parts of the North Island. On the last day of the month a depression was centred west of Macquarie Island and the associated trough of low pressure moved on to Southland. Rain became persistent and heavier over the West Coast and spread also to Nelson, the Southland coast, and the Canterbury high country, while showers affected parts of the North Island, especially the high country.
