weak trough on the following day affected mainly the West Coast
and the Otago coast. On the 19th and 20th a large anticyclone
covered most of New Zealand but pressures were low to the north,
and some scattered rain was reported, mainly in Gisborne and Bay
of Plenty.
By the 21st a depression which had originated as a tropical
cyclone had moved on to Northland, causing rain in most northern
and eastern districts of the North Island. From the 22nd to the
24th this depression, now rather shallow, moved over the North
Island and later departed to the east, while another weak trough
brought a return of south-easterly winds with cooler temperatures.
Some further rain was reported in the Bay of Plenty and
eastern districts of the North Island, and light falls also
affected the greater part of the South Island.
From the 25th to the 28th an anticyclone was almost stationary
to the west but pressures were sometimes low to the east. Rain was
reported at times in Gisborne and on the West Coast, with isolated
showers elsewhere. During the last three days of the month this
anticyclone crossed the South Island and only isolated showers
were reported.
