Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force

PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

REGULAR AIR FORCE

GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH

Appointments

James Maxwell Sceats is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 5 years in the rank of Flight Lieutenant, with seniority from 6 November 1967 and effect from 6 November 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Donald Millar Hamilton is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 8 years, in the rank of Flight Lieutenant, with seniority and effect from 9 November 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Promotions

The following Acting Pilot Officers to be Pilot Officers, with seniority and effect from 22 September 1972:

A. D. Lyttle.
L. J. Jenkins.
G. R. Scott.
D. M. Peters.
G. L. Wellington.

Extension of Commission

The short-service commission of Flight Lieutenant P. W. Philipson is extended to 28 February 1974, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

TECHNICAL BRANCH

Appointment

Signals Division

Flying Officer B. W. Gilbert to be temp. Flight Lieutenant with effect from 14 December 1972.

Promotion

Engineer Division

Flying Officer L. K. Clinton to be Flight Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 9 February 1973.

Reversion

Engineer Division

Flight Lieutenant (temp. Squadron Leader) A. G. P. Dick relinquishes the temp. rank of Squadron Leader with effect from 23 February 1973.

Extension of Commission

Signals Division

The short-service commission of Flight Lieutenant (temp. Squadron Leader) B. F. Huggard, M.N.Z.E.I., is extended to 23 January 1976, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Armament Division

The short-service commission of Flight Lieutenant J. S. Graham is extended to 13 April 1980, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPLY BRANCH

Appointments

Special Duties Division

Kerry Edwin Ragg, PH.D., is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 3 years in the rank of Flight Lieutenant, with seniority from 11 December 1967 and effect from 11 December 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Robert John Stockdill is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 5 years in the rank of Flight Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 2 October 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Graham Hugo Page Hanify is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 3 years in the rank of Flying Officer with seniority and effect from 25 September 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Promotion

Special Duties Division

Flight Lieutenant R. McCabe to be Squadron Leader with seniority and effect from 6 February 1973.

Relinquishment of Rank

Special Duties Division

Flight Lieutenant (acting Squadron Leader) D. W. Simpson relinquishes the acting rank of Squadron Leader with effect from 7 August 1972.

Transfer to Retired List

Secretarial Division

Wing Commander Colin Ernest Baird Papps, M.B.E., D.F.C., is transferred to the Retired List “A” with effect from 27 January 1973.

EDUCATION BRANCH

Appointment

Michael David Leahy, B.A., DIP.TCHG., is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 5 years in the rank of Flight Lieutenant with seniority from 2 October 1971 and effect from 2 October 1972, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Transfer to Reserve

Squadron Leader Archibald Cameron, C.ENG., REGD.ENGR., M.I.E.R.E., N.Z.C.E., is transferred to the Reserve of Air Force Officers with effect from 20 October 1972.

CHAPLAINS’ BRANCH

Appointment

The Reverend Timothy John Hardiman (Roman Catholic) is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 3 years to be followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers. He is appointed in the relative rank of Flight Lieutenant, with seniority from 1 November 1968 and effect from 17 July 1972.

WOMEN’S ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE

Extension of Commission

The commission of Flight Officer N. M. Johnson is extended to 3 July 1978.

TERRITORIAL AIR FORCE

ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPLY BRANCH

Extension of Commission

Special Duties Division

The commission of Squadron Leader L. A. Coker is extended to 24 January 1978.

RESERVE OF AIR FORCE OFFICERS

Appointment

Flight Lieutenant I. P. Palmer to be temp. Squadron Leader with effect from 7 December 1972.

Retirements

Group Captain John William Gordon McDougall, Q.H.P., M.B., B.S., D.P.H.(U.DURH.), D.T.M. and H., D.I.H., R.C.P.LOND. and R.C.S.ENG., is transferred to the Retired List “B” with effect from 3 July 1972.

The following officers are retired with effect from the dates shown:

Flight Lieutenant Arthur Gethin Creagh, D.F.C., 11 November 1970.
Flight Lieutenant William Lister Miller, D.F.C., 5 February 1973.
Flight Lieutenant Samuel Russell Carleton, 4 December 1972.
Flight Lieutenant Eric Duane Smart, 24 January 1973.
Flight Lieutenant Alistair Gordon McLean, 10 January 1973.

Temporary Judge of the Supreme Court Appointed

His Excellency the Governor-General in Council in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to appoint

John Barry O’Regan, Esq.

of Wellington, to be a temporary Judge of the Supreme Court for a period of 12 months from and inclusive of the 14th day of February 1973.
