The Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board Election Order
1971, Amendment No. 1

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 13th day of
November 1972
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to the Fire Services Act 1949, His Excellency the
Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order:
ORDER
-
Title—This order may be cited as the Christchurch
Metropolitan Fire Board Election Order 1971, Amendment
No. 1, and shall be read together with and deemed part
of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board Election Order
1971* (hereinafter referred to as the principal order). -
Election of local authority member—(i) Clause 6 of
the principal order is hereby amended by revoking sub-
clause (i), and substituting the following subclause:
“(i) For the purposes of electing a local authority Mem-
ber, each local authority shall be entitled to exercise one
vote. In the event of an equality of voting the local authority
making the largest contribution to the Board in the year
in which that election is held shall also have a casting vote.”
(ii) The said clause 6 is hereby further amended by omit-
ting from subclause (ii) the words “14th day of October”
and substituting the words “14th day of November”.
(iii) The said clause 6 is hereby further amended by omit-
ting from subclause (iv) the words “together with a notice
in writing specifying the number of votes exercisable by each
local authority”.
(iv) The said clause 6 is hereby further amended by revok-
ing subclause (v), and substituting the following subclause:
“(v) Within 35 days of the receipt of the list, each mayor
or, as the case may be, chairman of a local authority shall
cause a meeting of his council to be held for the purpose
of exercising its vote. At the meeting the local authority
shall exercise its vote by resolution.” -
Powers and duties of Returning Officer—Clause 8 of
the principal order is hereby amended by revoking sub-
clause (i), and substituting the following subclause:
“(i) In the event of there being an equality of votes in
any election held pursuant to this order, other than in any
election of the local authority member, the Returning Officer
shall have a casting vote.” -
Validity of election not affected by failure to hold meet-
ing, etc.—Clause 9 of the principal order is hereby amended
by revoking paragraph (b), and substituting the following
paragraph:
“(b) To pass at any such meeting a resolution exercising
its vote; or”.

Wellington R.D., and being part Lot 1, D.P. 22255, and being
part Section 139, Masterton Small Farm Settlement; as the
same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked
M.O.W. 26686 (S.O. 28463) deposited in the office of the
Minister of Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured sepia.
