Returns of Insurance Premiums Required from Persons, etc.,

Insuring Property Against Fire Otherwise than with an
Insurance Company Carrying on Business in New Zealand

THE attention of all persons, firms, companies, and associations
being owners of property in respect of which premiums are
paid to an insurance company not carrying on business in New
Zealand is drawn to section 52 of the Fire Services Act 1949 (as
amended by the Fire Services Amendment Acts 1953, 1956, and
1959); and, furthermore, the attention of all persons, firms,
companies, and associations in possession of funds for
insurance purposes is drawn to section 52 (2) of the Act,
which is quoted as follows:

“For the purpose of this section where an owner of any
property within a united urban fire district, urban fire district,
or a secondary urban fire district makes a payment in respect
of that property to any fund established for insurance purposes,
either within or beyond New Zealand, the person in possession
of the fund shall be deemed to be an insurance company and
every amount paid to the fund shall be deemed to be a
premium.”

By notice in the Gazette, dated 27 January 1972, the Minister
of Internal Affairs has fixed 29 February 1972 as the date by
which returns showing the total gross amount of premiums
received by, or due to, fire insurance companies during the
year ended 31 December 1971, shall be transmitted to the Fire
Service Council.

Returns, accompanied by a statutory declaration, must be
lodged forthwith and should be addressed to the Secretary,
Fire Service Council, G.P.O. Box 2133, Wellington.

Department of Agriculture Notice: Additional Agricultural

Chemicals on Which Subsidy is Payable, Amendment No. 52
(Notice No. 177 Ag. 3599)

Pursuant to the Agricultural Chemicals Act 1959, and to a
delegation from the Minister of Agriculture under sections 9
and 10 of the Department of Agriculture Act 1953, for the
purposes of the said Act, it is hereby notified that the Schedule
to the Agricultural Chemicals Notice (No. Ag. 10487)* is
hereby amended by adding the products specified in the
Schedule hereto.

New Zealand Remuneration Authority—Cost of Living Order

Pursuant to the powers conferred on it by the Stabilisation
of Remuneration Act 1971, the Remuneration Authority, having
received from the Government Statistician on the 18th day of
January 1972 a copy of the Consumers’ Price Index for the
quarter ending the 31st day of December 1971, disclosing a
percentage increase of 9.1 percent for the period 1st day of
January 1971 to 31st day of December 1971, hereby orders as
follows:

1. The said figure of 9.1 percent shall be the percentage with
   reference to which, on the date mentioned in clause 3 hereof,
   every rate of remuneration in every award or industrial agree-
   ment made under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration
   Act 1954, or agreement under section 8 of the Labour Disputes
   Investigation Act 1913, for the time being in force shall, subject
   to the provisos and exceptions contained in section 16 of the
   Stabilisation of Remuneration Act 1971, be varied in accord-
   ance with subsection (4) of the said section 16.

2. For the purposes of this order the term “remuneration”
   means salary or wages; and includes time and piece wages and
   allowances the rates of which are a specified proportion of the
   rate of salary or wages.

3. This order shall come into force on the 31st day of
   January 1972.

N.B.—It should be noted that any increase in any rate of
remuneration in any award, etc., affected by the Cost of Living
Order dated 8 July 1971 will itself under this order have
effect as an increase in remuneration for the purpose of the
proviso to section 16 (4) of the Stabilisation of Remuneration
Act 1971, and must be taken into account as such in applying
this Cost of Living Order.
