Price Order No. 2196 (Bread, Other than Bread Subject to
Price Order No. 2194)
GENERAL
Pursuant to the Control of Prices Act 1947, the Price Tribunal
hereby makes the following price order:
PRELIMINARY
5. A booking fee at the rate of one quarter cent (¼c) per
loaf for loaves of not more than 1lb weight and one half
cent (½c) per loaf for loaves exceeding 1lb weight may be
made for any bread sold by a retailer to which this order
applies, provided that payment for the bread so sold has not
been made prior to, or at the time of, the customer's taking
delivery of the bread at the shop.
This order may be cited as Price Order No. 2196 and
shall come into force on the 16th day of June 1972.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
6. The maximum retail selling prices provided for in this
order shall include the service of wrapping where this service
is provided by the retailer.
2. This order applies to all bread, other than bread subject to
Price Order No. 2194, sold in New Zealand by a wholesaler or
by a retailer, but does not apply to bread sold on Stewart
Island or to bread sold as part of a meal.
SPECIAL PRICES
FIXING MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF BREAD TO WHICH THIS
ORDER APPLIES
3. Subject to the provisions of this order, the maximum
retail prices which may be charged or received for any bread
to which this order applies shall be:
Retail Margin per loaf

Less than 2½ cents
2½ cents and less than
3½ cents
3½ cents and over
Maximum Retail Price
per loaf
Retail price at 6 June 1972.
Retail price at 6 June 1972 less
1 cent.
Retail price at 6 June 1972 less
2 cents.
7. Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of
this order, and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks
fit, the Tribunal on application by any wholesaler, or retailer,
may authorise special maximum prices in respect of any
bread to which this order applies where special circumstances
exist or for any reason extraordinary charges (freight or
otherwise) are incurred by the wholesaler or retailer. Any
authority given by the Tribunal under this clause may apply
with respect to a specified lot or consignment of bread or may
relate generally to all bread sold by the wholesaler or retailer,
while the approval remains in force.
PRICE TICKETING OF BREAD
FIXING MAXIMUM WHOLESALE PRICES OF BREAD TO WHICH
THIS ORDER APPLIES
4. Subject to the provisions of this order, the maximum
wholesale prices which may be charged or received for any
bread to which this order applies shall be the maximum
retail prices as provided for in clause 3 of this order less
2 cents per loaf except that in respect of loaves weighing less
than 1 lb which on 6 June 1972 were sold at a retail price
which incorporated a retail margin of 1½ cents or less, the
maximum wholesale prices shall be the maximum retail prices
as provided for in clause 3 of this order less 1 cent per loaf.
8. Every retailer who sells bread to which this order applies
shall display in his shop in a prominent position so as to be
easily read by customers, a price list in legible and prominent
characters showing in respect of bread the retail price per
loaf determined in accordance with this order.
